Kelp lives on the surface of the ocean and in order to support it to stay afloat, it uses the bulbs that it grows. It is the largest marine plant in the world and can grow up to 250 ft in length! It is also the fastest growing sea-plant in the world, thus helping it grow to its extreme length.

Living in the shallow depths is sea grass. The reason for this is because they need a lot of sunlight to thrive. There are multiple types of this plant:

• Shoal grass
• Manatee grass
• Turtle grass
• Paddle grass
• Star grass

source

Sea grass can provide a decent habitat for small marine life such as small fish and lobsters - they are able to hide under it from predators. Some reef rish are also able to feed off of Sea grass.

Coralline Algae plays many important roles in coral reefs, and a variety of other marine ecosystems. This Algae is as hard as rocks, which is useful due to the fact that it provides a good overall structure to marine material. It also binds them together.

This ultimately protects the reef and coral from intense wave activity. Another support feature is that it out grows many algae that is of a nuisance to the ecosystem.

This algae type has existed for more than 500 million years. Red Algae grows in warm, tropical water and has been harvested by many countries across the world (especially Asia) as a food source. This is because it has a very high protein content.

Red algae is always red as it absorbs blue light and reflects red light. This, able to photosynthesis blue light at greater depths, allows it to live to deeper in the water than other algae.

The cause of it absorbing blue light is because of the pigment that it contains called 'Phycoerythrin'.
