John made a face when he saw Leo walk into the store. The kid always paid with pennies. John hated counting them. It simply took too long. He grimaced at the thought of counting those worthless pennies. Sometimes he lost count, and he’d have to start all over. He always ended up losing the pennies somehow or stuffing them into his drawer, never to be used again. His life would be so much easier without pennies. Many Americans think similarly to John and want to eliminate the penny from the United States' currency system. They believe that the penny costs too much to mint, and wastes time.

Some may say that when you have pennies you don't have to round up that is true but it would cost more to make pennies than it's worth. If they we stop using money it will reduce the cost of making pennies and delivering them. This will save them lots of money that could be used for other things like research funds and more. rounding up cents won't make a big difference and make things more easier to count.

The second reason as to why we should discontinue the penny is that the penny costs more to make than it is worth. Article 1 states that,
"...taxpayers---lost $60.2 million on the production and distribution of pennies...". This means that U.S taxpayers lost millions of dollars due to the production of pennies, which will eventually cause financial issues. Once they stop making pennies the U.S will save millions, possibly billions of dollars.

Pennies can be a time consumer at some points. For example, when a person is at the cash register and he/she uses pennies and counting them, it holds up the line. The fact that you can barely buy anything by using pennies, it makes sense why pennies are useless.
