“The County Town’s Celebrations. Thousands take part” “Isn’t it grand to think it’s over” were the headlines!

The King’s speech was relayed to the crowd on Mount Folly. Bodmin Town Band  playing the Flora Dance tried to march through the crowds up to Town Wall then on to the Asylum clock and there was no way of distinguishing  between dancers and spectators – Fore Street became one ‘bobbing animated mass of people’.

(20 Aug 1945) Mr Attlee broadcast at midnight the news that victory over Japan was complete.  VJ Day coincided with the Royal Opening of Parliament and the King and Queen's drive to Westminster began the two days of celebrations. Crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace waiting to cheer their sovereign and kept themselves entertained by singing.  At night floodlighting and bonfires lit up the skies of London and the rejoicing continued.)

there is extremely little information I can find on google about any history prior to the football club in Bodmin.

There is vast historical information about cornish wrestling.

In 1923 the Cornish wrestling association was formed to promote the sport, and it still exists to this day.

Cornish wrestling was documented far earlier than the association's creation however ( https://thatsmycornwall.com/cornish-wrestling/) says that it dates back as early as 1415 in battles where men carried symbols of wrestlers.

James Polkinghorne (1788–1851) was a champion wrestler who had a number of famous contests against Devon fighters, including Flower, Jackman (1816) and Abraham Cann (1826), which drew very large crowds of spectators (c17,000). James Warren from St Just was a famed Cornish wrestler, who became champion of Cornwall.
