They are polar opposites in so many ways, this being one of the biggest. The use of this metaphor also gives the reader incite as to how abnormal this relationship is. The author wanted to explain how this isn't your average high school relationship, no, this is a very abnormal relationship that too many people think that Bella is going to end up dead. It is important to the plot because Edward's main focus is making sure Bella is safe and unharmed. Edward would do anything to make sure Bella stayed alive even if it meant hurting himself. This section in the dialogue reveal how Edward's thought process lead Bella and Edward to be where they are in their relationship. If Edward hadn't thought the way he did, Bella and Edward would have not spent the day together and they would not have talked about the things that needed to be talked about in order to make sure their relationship works. This part of the dialogue also show Edward's desperate need to be in control of everything. He is a control freak and it is shown here. If he isn't in control of everything, he will put his life on hold until he has everything under control. Even though there is a lot of unpleasant feelings towards each other, their relationship is slowly getting better. Connotation - gossip, rumors, 
This phrase presents a negative connotation for this section in the book because rumors are never good especially when they are centered around the devil being in town and stealing souls. The use of the word 'whisper' also allow the reader to understand that there might have been a hint of fear given the fact that people weren't shouting that the devil is on earth. People were uncertain and full of fear to the point that they resorted to only quiet gossip.

Connotation - red, inflamed, rough, bloody, gory

The use of the word 'angry' creates a very gory and negative mood. The author uses the word 'angry' in this phrase to give the reader a clear visual as to what the hole where Emilia's sister's heart had once been looks like. The word added a more gory touch to this section of the book and allows the reader to understand that Emilia's sister's heart had been ripped out in such a manor that can be considered monstrous. We are able to learn that the whole where her heart had once been wasn't like a clean cut, it was wild and bloody, and looked straight out of a horror film.

I think that the use of this figurative language adds a bit of humor to this part of the book because Emilia is just hitting him and hitting him and he won't even budge. The use of this phrase presents a negative connotation. It also sets a very clear example as to how Raven sees her dad. The phrase allows the reader to understand that Raven believes that her had and his daughter are at least doing all right if not rich. We can also learn that Raven believes that her dad just left them to start a whole new family and just living his best life even though Raven and her mom are struggling. Wrath is trying to convince Emilia to make a blood trade with him because he wants out of whatever eternal protection spells she put on him. Wrath is explaining what the terms are of said blood trade and Emilia isn't really having it. Emilia only cares about finding her sister's murderer and while a blood trade would be almost as good as the protection spell, the minute that the blood trade is completed, Wrath would be on his way back to where he came from. Emilia decides that she doesn't want to make the blood trade and that just angers Wrath even more. This section of dialogue allows the reader to start to understand a couple of things. The reader is able to see a start to  a progression in the plot as well as some distinct personality traits from both Emilia and Wrath. As for the progression in plot, it works in two different aspects. The first being that now that they have agreed that they both want the sane goal, which is to find Vittoria's murderer, they are going to start working together, which was why Emilia tried summoning a demon in the first place. Another way that there is a progression in plot is that Emilia's decision to decline Wrath's offer of a blood trade shows that Wrath is technically bound to Emilia. They will have to work together and he can't just leave like he would have if they had made a blood trade. Then as for revealing some character traits of Wrath. This section of dialogue shows a couple of things, a, he doesn't like having to worry about anyone but himself. The protection spell requires him to protect Emilia no matter what, but the blood trade that he was desperately trying to get her to agree to only lets others know that if they mess with her, he might react but he probably wouldn't. He clearly doesn't show any sign of liking her, ever. We also learn that Wrath doesn't like to be mistaken for being the hero. He doesn't want to be thought of having human morals or "noble intentions" and such. Then for Emilia, we learn that she seems to be more of a act/speak first, think later type of person. She practically played a demon prince who is the ruler of house wrath into getting information and didn't seem to think about the consequences. Wrath has a plan to meet with a man and didn't plan on having Emilia present but Emilia was upset about that and Wrath agreed after informing her of how he won't be the kindest person in the world. Emilia also teases him about a few things. In this section of dialogue we can definitely see where the plot has finally progressed to a point that shows them becoming more comfortable with each other and how they have actually started working together to find Vittoria's murderer. This is a big change because before, Wrath was calling the shots and Emilia was sick of it. Emilia wanted to help because it is her sister, she shouldn't be sitting on the sidelines letting Wrath do the work. But now, they are working together. Another way it is important to the plot is that this section of dialogue shows that Wrath may have a soft spot for Emilia, and Emilia alone. This is a big progression because in the beginning, he wanted nothing to do to her but he actually seems to care about what she thinks of him and he doesn't want her to think of him as a monster because that is how he is going to act when they meet with whoever they are going to meet. I think this is an important detail, at least in my opinion, because Wrath has never loved or even liked anyone the way he seems to like Emilia and I think that his feelings may cause him to do things he normally wouldn't do just to make sure she is safe. I mean, he didn't even get mad at her when she said he hasn't been pleasant, he was pleased but when she had said something like that at the beginning, he threatened to kill her. Another thing I think this section of dialogue reveals is that Emilia is actually very demanding and most certainly doesn't like to be said no to or underestimated. But even though Emilia might not like it, the fact that Wrath never told her but didn't sound to upset when knew about it shows that Wrath might have feelings for her. The use of the word 'died' in these couple of sentences presents a very negative mood. The mood is also a bit sad and depressing. This entire section of the book really isn't happy at all either. The author uses the word 'died' (dead) to explain that the dad no longer feels like himself. He is no longer the person he was before the Vietnam War. The author didn't use the word because he actually died but because they wanted the reader to fully understand how much the war affected Terry's father. The reader learns that Terry's dad tried so hard and because of that, the person he was before, is gone. The use of the word 'throw in this phrase presents a negative mood and it presents kind of a jealous aspect to what Cardan is saying. The author uses this word/phrase to present that Cardan is jealous of everything that is Jude. That everywhere he goes, he is always reminded that Jude is better than him. Cardan is extremely jealous of Jude and by the use of this phrase we can finally understand why Cardan treated Jude the way he did. Why he was cruel and awful and rude to her. The author added this phrase to the story because she wanted everyone to know, that even though Cardan is a prince, and that he can have anything he could ever want with just a few words, he is still jealous and his life still isn't perfect if he hates Jude because his brother keeps bringing up Jude beating him.

The use of this phrase presents both a negative and positive mood depending on how you look at it. A positive mood because Jude finally has power just as she wanted and after everything she sacrificed and lost, she was rewarded. It presents a negative mood because she has power over the king meaning she could hurt the kingdom as a whole should she harm the king. Any power over a royal is considered treason in this book so it isn't a very positive thing. The author uses this phrase so that way the reader can understand that while Cardan may be king, Jude is the one calling the shots. Jude is ruling the kingdom secretly while Cardan is pretending and parties his worries away. We learn that Cardan is also going along with what Jude says. Cardan complies and has his fun being king while Jude finally has the satisfaction of being powerful. The use of the word 'normal' presents a negative mood. Jude is constantly in danger when she is in Faerie and Vivi is worried about her because Jude has recently gotten injured because some knights attacked her. Vivi wants to take Jude back to the mortal worlds where it is safe. But, normal isn't a think that exists whether Jude lives in Faerie or the mortal worlds. Nothing about Jude's life is normal. Danger isn't becoming her normal, she doesn't expect danger, she knows it will come sometimes but doesn't expect it. Jude is doing something right if she is sometimes in danger, for if she wasn't in danger, she isn't feared and then she would be nowhere. The use of this word allows the reader to understand just how much Jude's life has changed though because Vivi has never worried about Jude until now. He may not have a problem with that but his people might if they ever find out. The author uses this word because she wants the reader to understand that Jude is the real ruler of Faerie, Cardan is merely a pawn in her game. Jude gets to have her fun with her newly appointed power and all Cardan has to do is obey.
