Those in this age gap struggling with depression can often be overlooked for several reasons. One is the attention factor. Some people say people in this age act depressed for attention, and not because they actually are. This is something that should not be someone's first thoughts, however, when hearing that someone they know is struggling with depression. Sadly, depression and suicide for adolescents go hand in hand. Though statistics show that adolescents that attempt suicide usually do not succeed, they are still thinking about it. There is some negative talk about suicide in this age group due to attention as well. However, adolescents that ask for help usually mean it, but are not taken seriously. The media plays a large role in this, because some say they media glorifys suicide in this age group as a way to acheive attention, popularity, and even revenge.
