         <title>Podcasts Can Improve Understanding of Textbook Readings!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Students are placing less value in textbook readings, and having increasing difficulty in understanding complex readings.</p><p><br></p><p>In this study, an instructor created a podcast to help guide new nursing students through their assigned textbook readings. The instructor highlighted and further explained important concepts and tables, and also noted readings that were "nice to know" information rather than "need to know" (Zwilling, 2024).</p><p><br></p><p>78% of students who completed a survey after using the podcasts to guide their reading said the podcasts were helpful for the course and would also be helpful to improve their critical reading in future courses (Zwilling, 2024).</p><p><br></p><p>Take a look at the article:</p><p><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://doi-org.cyber.usask.ca/10.3928/01484834-20240612-02">https://doi-org.cyber.usask.ca/10.3928/01484834-20240612-02</a></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Podcasts Can Improve Student Engagement in Textbook Readings!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In this study, students listened to a podcast and participated in instructor-guided note-taking.          <description><![CDATA[<p>This study suggests that use of commercially-prepared podcasts can be beneficial to enhance nursing student learning (Hargett, 2018). </p><p><br></p><p>If you are hesitant to make your own podcast, using podcasts that are already made can be a great option.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Podcasts can be a beneficial tool to complement learning within nursing education. Literature reveals that podcasts can be useful for exploring difficult topics, sparking critical thinking, and improving student reading and comprehension skills.</p><p><br></p><p>In utilizing the SECTIONS (Bates, 2019) model to critique use of media in education, some benefits to highlight would be the ease in creating podcasts, easy access for students, and overall low costs of production (Falk, 2024). Utilizing podcasts to share content from a guest speaker could help reduce challenges in scheduling (Falk, 2024).</p><p><br></p><p>If making your own podcast feels daunting, research has shown that utilizing pre-existing podcasts can also improve student learning (Hargett, 2018).</p>]]></description>
