How individual student planning can be utilized to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed academically in a middle school:
  • In individual counseling the student will have ample opportunity to come into the office and lay out a academic success plan/chart. This will ensure the student is on track and the office is opened to every student so everyone has equal opportunity for success.
  • School counselors may plan for the individual student to explore their challenges and work toward desired change.

Group counseling is a form of counseling whereas a small group of individuals meet regularly to interact, discuss, and  explore all similar concerns with the presence of a counselor/therapist.

School counselors have a curriculum that have lessens to help students achieve competencies that the curriculum lays out for each grade/age level. Collaboration between the school counselor, administrator, teachers, parents, and other outside community organizations are used to make sure the curriculum reaches all students.
Examples:
1. Lesson plans presented to the classes by the school counselor to help them understand specific competencies set by the curriculum, such as bullying.
2. The school counselor could collaborate with teachers to perform activities to help children learn how to interact with one another properly, such as on in the lunch room, since middle school lunch rooms can be full of difficulties.
3. A school counselor can hold lunch groups in a middle school for students who are having a tough time making friends in their new school.
How core curriculum lessons can be utilized to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed academically in a middle school:
-A lesson/ presentation can be given to teachers at the beginning of the year addressing tools to help children focus more and incorporate fidget toys, wiggle seats, and yoga balls etc. 
- A school counselor can give a lesson to students in a classrooms in a middle school discussing good study habits. This will especially be beneficial for sixth grade students since this is their first year in middle school.
- A school counselor can give a classroom lesson on test taking strategies. Consultation Practices are school based  collaborations  which is a common duty to school counselors job  as well as a problem-solving process that can be initiated and terminated by either the consultant or consultee.
Example 1:
1.When consultation is performed, counselors generally create written   reports for records.
 Example 2: Skills required during Consultation consist of: collaboration, provision,  advocacy, planning and follow up. Counselor will demonstrate each skill listed above.
Example 3:  A middle school student comes in the counselors office for a scheduled consultation appointment . The counselor will implement active listening skills and gain a understanding of what issues are being presented.

A school counselor needs to understand the ASCA Code of Ethics when disclosing information to school professionals. The school counselors must keep all information confidential unless a student reveals he or she plans to harm themselves or someone else (American School Counselor Association, 2016). If it was needed for confidentiality to be broken, it would be important for the school counselor to inform the proper school officials to keep everyone safe.

It would be extremely important to collaborate with school professionals about student success because it is important to talk with teachers about resources their students need in order for them to succeed. Teachers are the ones who see the most of their students so collaborating with them would be an immense help.
