Recently, people have been using resources too much and carbon footprint is getting bigger. So I decided to do an experiment. "The Ethical Man" And I lived without something new for a year. I have used just secondhand items and recycled items to reduce our impact on the environment.

At first, I changed toilet papers and towels to recycled. I changed my clothes and shoes to second-handed. I made flowerpots and other household items to use PET.

I felt uncomfortable to them about a month because I wasn't adapt them and I couldn't feel clean. Basically it wasn't new. And some people said to me It’s much better to buy new things and use them than spending time like me.

But I felt more comfortable than before when I used new things and it has become reducing my living expenses.

These days the polution is getting severe and it cause lots of problem in our society. Especially, our environment changed a lot and it affect out health. So I decided to be a green man for a year to decrease waste and save natural resources

Fist of all, I got rid of my car and bought a bicycle. Due to heavy traffic jam, when we go to mall we spent too much time on the road and wasted gas. And then we went traditional market for shopping by walk. And also we gave our TV set to my friend and we read books when our family had free time and talked about our daily life.

At first, it was very inconvenient and strange for our family. It took almost double times for going shopping because we didn't know where those things we wanted to buy. If we had been in mall, we have find a map of the mall. Sometime we got lost in the traditional market. However, it did not took a long time to get used it. And we could save our time and money. And also while we spent time together, we could share our our matter and could understand each other. So we could get close.

When we have any challenge in our

I and my husband decided to live ethically after retirement. So we moved to a small country last year.

We built our house with wood, stone and earth and started using a solar heating system. We planted seeds and ate crops and vegetables we grew on our farm.

Our daughters complained that they had difficulty getting to school. Of course, it was not easy to live without a car and processed food such as ramyun.

Although we had difficult times, our family became closer and healthier. We could save the costs for electricity and food because solar power is free and we didn't need to spend money to buy food at supermarket. After theone-year experiment of ethical living, we no longer wish to go back to the busy and stressful city.

Last year I did social movement for global human right. I did internship for foundation of which name is KOREAVERBAND. I and my colleagues were preparing in a seminar which is covering the issue of the comfort women who were the victim of the world war 2. Participants came from several countries such South Korea, Japan, Germany, France and Poland. They were a student who is interested in global human right. We were discussing about how we reconcile each other and face the negative side of the modern history like the comfort women during the WW2.

It was difficult that Korean students and Japanese students had an argument with the above issue. For example if the Korean students mentioned that the Japanese government should apologize for the comfort women sincerely, one Japanese student told us what you, Korean, want more. We were facing the problem how we can understand each other. After the debate, we could not have reached any same goal, but it was clear that we shared our opinions and made a journal with our perspective.

After the session we all joined in 'Alumni' which means we are the member and friends. Also, we have more interest in global human right. We can consider of more how important we make conversation. When people talk each other, human can understand better. It can reduce any risk of conflict or battle in a peaceful way. Later I want to do something for social movement and make my society more bright and warmer.

Recently I got a request of reporting about being ethical from a magazine. The purpose of this is that the magazine wanted to evoke some feeling from people who live these days unethical society. Therefore I had to think deliberately what is living ethical for me.

Over the last two decades, I had been using many bad words in my daily life. And it made my image as immature for the others' sight. To become moral and mature, I decided not to use swearing words at all.

At the first period of this effort, it was extremely difficult not to use swearing words when I got angry or upset because it was sort of my habit which had continued for a long time.

When I finally managed not to use bad words, I was able to look around and found the fact that many people were swearing each other and it made me feel bad. Also, I could control my temper with good words. To say good words, I had to see everything in good way and tried not to get stressed. These effort made myself mature and finally my relationship with the others became much better. Needless to say that I have experience a massive change in my daily life and now I am planning to do another challenge.

These days, as society becomes more complicated, lots of young people tend to become more selfish .So I decided to become a ethnical woman to contribute to the revival of Coexistence society.

I made some rules. First, To give away my seat to elderly people as soon as they appear in my sight.Second, to help carrying their heavy burden every moment I could see them. And last , always bring some sweets for crying kids in the public and be nice to them ( who are I really hate..)

Some of elderly people did appreciate a lot and some of them offer to lend them my bag or used to gave me some ginseng candy in return, but some of elderly behaved like it's their natural rights and didn't even express any of gratitude .

And sometimes while I help them to carry burden, I got some stain and wrinkle on my ironed blouse before arrived to work, and late for my meeting but that helping part was the most fulfilling part.

And the sweets for the evil kids worked pretty well

When I was in my office, I used paper cups. But I thought that are not good at the environment.

I changed that I took the small bag to the market. It made by fabric and it could be folded.
