“Off there to the right- somewhere is a large island” Whitney screamed. “It's rather a mystery”

What island is it? I responded “The old charts call it ‘ship-trap island' 'Whitney remarked “A suggestive name isn’t it? Sailors have a curious dread of the place. I don't know why. Some superstition” she continued. “ I can't see it, '' I said, confused, trying to look through the dank tropical night that was palpable as it pressed its thick warm blackness against the yacht. “You have good eyes''.

I heard Whitney say with a laugh, “And I've seen you pick off a moose moving in the brown fall brush at four hundred yards but even you can't see four mines or so through moonless Caribbean night” I said insulting Whitney the best I could. The only reason I went with Whitney on this trip is because we would be hunting the most amazing animal but something went wrong quickly. We went behind the boat and told each other goodnight. So I headed to bed to try to sleep but I couldn't so I went to sit in the back of the boat and to stare out into the water.

I was relaxed and everything looked really nice and I was starting to close my eyes and fall asleep but then I heard something that spooked me so I stood up holding the handles on the back of the boat and I started to climb the back and next thing you know a big wave hits the boat and throws me off of the boat. (”He leaped upon the rail and balanced himself there, to get greater elevation; his pipe, striking a rope, was knocked from his mouth. He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and had lost his Balance” Pg2.)

I started swimming to the boat but it was moving too fast. I was trying to figure out “why can't they hear me?” Why won't they wake up?. (“ He struggled up to the surface and tried to cry out, but the wash from the speeding yacht slapped him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth made him gag and strangle”. Pg2)

But I stopped yelling out and started swimming to land. Doggedly he swam in that direction,swimming with slow, deliberate strokes, conserving his strength. For a seemingly endless time he fought the sea. (“He began to count his strokes; he could do possibly a hundred more and then Rainsford heard a sound”.Pg3) And there I could finally catch my breath and once I did I started looking around trying to find out where I was. Soon I came upon A big house In the middle of the woods and I started to think to myself “Why is there a house in the middle of the woods?” So I started to look around the house and looking through the windows and saw a dude holding a gun.

So I ducked down but I Think someone saw me. (Pg3 “He came upon them as he turned a crook in the coast line; and his first thought was that he had come upon a village, for there were many lights. But as he forged along he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building--a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom”.) I walked to the door and there standing was a man with a gun in his hand pointing at me and then another man walked up and made the man with the gun stand in a military salute. (“The first thing Rainsford's eyes discerned was the largest man Rainsford had ever seen--a gigantic creature, solidly made and black bearded to the waist. In his hand the man held a long-barreled revolver, and he was pointing it straight at Rainsford's heart.”Pg4) The dude that walked out introduced himself, his name was General zaroff. ("I am General Zaroff."Pg4)

He let me in the house And we started talking and he said if you want food, clothes, rest you can have them. So I ate, got dressed and layed down and fell asleep. ("Come," he said, "we shouldn't be chatting here. We can talk later. Now you want clothes, food, rest. You shall have them. This is a most-restful spot."Pg5) We move spots and continue talking. And he started talking about there's some nice animals to hunt here but there's only certain ways they get here so he takes me outside to show me.

I look out in the distance, its pitch black I can't see anything, then he pulls out a remote and I see a flashing light, the same one I saw before I fell. ("Watch! Out there!" exclaimed the general, pointing into the night. Rainsford's eyes saw only blackness, and Then, as the general pressed a button, far out to sea Rainsford saw the flash of lights.Pg8) And then it hit me the animals he was talking about was people and i asked him why people he said because i'm afraid of getting bored.
