         <description><![CDATA[<div>Teenagers had to sing the Japanese national anthem white facing the direction of Japan at school. It took them some time to adapt with the new national anthem as it was hard to pronounce the words. They were also forced to learn Japanese subjects in school. All subjects in school were taught in Japanese. It was hard for the teenagers to adapt to the changes as they could not understand Japanese.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>I can also remember going to the old Roxy Theatre at Katong to watch a cartoon. It was a Japanese cartoon where a boy, who was born in a pumpkin, became the village hero. Then they would also show the current news on screen.<br><br>Life still went on in the occupation. We were closer to the sea then, and I would spend time swimming with the other kids as well.
