Sometimes we base other people’s reaction off of how we would in their shoes, that can make us nervous and etc.

I think most people fear judgement. It’s hard to hear other people’s thoughts out loud and it makes us not want to contribute to causes. -Alycia R.

One might get apprehensive toward the fact that they may be ostracized from their community

They may not be interested or are against the issue at hand

When we decide to approach one person vs another we need to look at our internal biases about what we think our base looks like.

I'm generally not scared to "recruit" people, it more has to do with my energy/social battery. I sometimes get intimidated if it's a person of status or someone I want to impress- but that has more to do with personal insecurities than my willingness to recruit. However, I do make judgements sometimes superficially about how well my message will be received.

I myself am afraid to talk to strangers about what I care about due to fear of appearing controversial
We tend to make the assumption that either individuals don't care about the issue, or that they appose the issue
I tell my self that what I'm feeling right now ( annoying, or controversial ) should not stop me from what can occur in the future from beating this ( positive change)

1. Many people are scared of being controversial or annoying by asking people to do something.

2. We believe that certain groups will/won't care about something based on what we know about their social patterns.

3. The fear of rejection brings in cynicism and can make us believe that our idea is impractical.

1.) We're hesitant to discuss the things we care about with friends and strangers because we're unsure of how they'll react, and we might feel embarrassed based on their responses.

2.) The judgments we make about other people when we decide not to try recruiting them are that they're not interested or won't get our point.

3.) The fear of rejection or judgment is holding me back from recruiting people because I don't want to be mocked or laughed. I also don't want to take my time talking to someone who would never see my point of view.

4.) The mantra I can tell myself to combat the fear of rejection while recruiting people is that I can either be remembered for my efforts to make a change or choose to stay quiet and not speak up for those who can't.
