(2-3 sources) SITUATE your investigation of the complexities of the issue. Present why this issue/problem is worth investigating, and begin to focus this issue to set up for your main idea.

Nostalgia is a sentimental longing for the past and often is recalled falsely and with bias. (1) This can lead to issues moving forward because a person can be stuck on the false reality of the past and try to reach a similarly unattainable reality in the future. (2) This issue is worth investigating because it can lead to many wrapped perceptions of attaining a healthier lifestyle. A way the false glory of the past is seen today is with people engaged with unhealthy behavior. Often using nostalgia to reflect on the past can push people to want to relapse and go back to the bad behavior that made them feel happy although it was in reality harming them. (2) Focusing on this issue and finding ways to combat this style of thinking by embracing mindfulness can overall improve the well being of many peoples lives. (3)

The above evidence strengthens the notion that people do not hold accurate retellings of their memory. For example, the person who used to smoke sees smoking as a happy period in their life despite the obvious harmful effects of such an activity. Furthermore, the overall claim that nostalgia is unreliable highlights the importance of focusing on the present. This is because while the past is subject to false recollection, the same cannot be said for the present in that it happens "in the now." This further illustrates the value of the present over the past, as that which can be changed will hold significant weight over that which cannot.

Even though the narrator didn't live the in the same period her ancestors did, she used their Nostalgia to get through her discontentment in the present.

1. This is important because people may live their lives overly focused on the past which can hinder them from living fully in the present. This is important because the present is something that we can directly control whereas the same cannot be said for the past.

2. Ultimately, reliance on one's past is damaging because memory and by extension nostalgia is often fleeting and false. Furthermore, nostalgia can prevent an individual from moving forward in that it can fabricate a harmful sense of complacency. Therefore, it is by positively embracing one's present mindfulness that leads individuals towards forming a better connection with reality.

3. Overall, the present is where energy should be diverted as it is changeable, not the past which is static.

The quotes provided illustrate the importance of focusing on the present. For example, the notion that old people will hyper fixate on their youth as an escape method rather than potentially addressing genuine health concerns is alarming. It is typically better for people to accept the things in their past and to learn from them, rather than to obsess over them. This ties back to the main idea as it cements the notion that the present is ultimately where improvement can be had. Growth and personal development does not come from fondness towards recollection but rather active work in current reality.

These quotes work together to highlight how people use nostalgia to face the reality of the present. They provide examples of how looking back on the past comforts and gives hope to the reality of people's current situations. However, creating coping mechanisms can be as harmful as it is positive. Mentally constructed solutions to problems are subject to volatility. Moving forward, this evidence ultimately connects to how people are consumed by the past even though it could be inaccurate and live their lives reminiscing in order to avoid the struggles of the present.

By actively participating in mental cleanliness activities such as meditation an individual can work on harnessing their feelings. This concept integrates itself into the main idea of this research inquiry as it through a proper appreciation for the influence we have over our present lives that human beings can see observable benefits.
