however, oliver never lived life in such a way.

despite being the second son of the maddox group, he bore the responsibilities of the eldest child. he had to come in first, follow the family’s chosen path, and never dishonor the maddox name. despite these expectations, his role came with none of the perks. being ten years younger than his older brother, raleigh, often oliver was sidelined and forgotten. To ensure his older brother’s success in taking over the family corporation, they provided him with top tutors and lessons. on weekends, the family brought raleigh to the golf courses to socialize with ayrton’s wealthiest and most influential individuals. at night, the young heir partied wildly, never denied, feeding the monster ready to be unleashed.

it was oliver’s grandmother who pushed for his grandfather and parents to give the boy the same opportunities and resources. she knew the boy had potential, untapped. that was her, always spotting the gems and backing her horses in races called life. however, his parents never noticed his accomplishments, only his failures. a resentment was only natural over time, watching the way his family fawned over his older brother who was in constant trouble, but scrutinized every mistake of his instead.

however, his return was a bitter reality check. realizing that no one, aside from his younger brother and grandma, looked for him the resentment in him seemed almost unbearable. Believing he needed to improve, he focused on school, connections, and his future at maddox group.

three years later his family finally noticed him. for all of the wrong reasons. after knocking up a fling of his, they ordered him to fix his mistakes, that he brought dishonor on the family. not wanting anyone or anything to hold him back from his path of greatness, he abandoned his unborn child and the mother. it was this moment that changed everything. they would never notice him unless he messed up. from that moment on, he was driven by rage, determined to conquer everything in his way and to claim the world as his own.

oliver was twenty-seven when he finally found his answer, the key to take down his worst nemesis and older brother, raleigh maddox.

it was a warm june night. the maddox family held their annual summer party, one that looked more like a mini music festival equipped with carnival rides, a petting zoo, and some water slides. all of the family's closest friends, business partners, and allies were there. while it was supposed to bring family and friends together, it was a dick measuring contest. oliver's father showed off his yacht and cars once again while his mother was subtle in her art of bragging, watching the other women in awe of her art collection.

on the side was oliver, uninterested in another woman his family tried to set him up with. what did catch his eye was raleigh spending a bit too much time in one of the seaside mansion's bedrooms, but only for the oldest maddox son to come out with some powder on his nose and a woman running out with tear-stained makeup. curiosity got to the best of him, following the woman out of the party. it was there he learned raleigh drugged her drink and raped her.

this revelation would set off a series of events, finding having something solid to hold against his brother. something to take raleigh down. it was this investigation that revealed baron was a serial rapist and murderer, but that was not all. his parents covered it all up. after all their precious heir could not go down for this. they even went to the lengths to hire someone else to take the fall instead.

that could not happen. oliver could not let raleigh win.

using his connections at the police department and prosecutor's office, he devised a plan. paying a few officials here and there with a few hefty promises, he was able to have his brother's case reassigned to a zealous prosecutor and crooked detective. from there on, he paid off the detective to act as his bloodhound on the case, feeding him evidence too to hand over to the prosecutor. it was the prosecutor who seemed all too easy to handle, ambitious for a win and need to be an honest warrior for the country. with their need to nail a villain, the prosecutor did all that they could to nail woo baron.

finally the investigation got to the woo family, who felt like there was little that they could do to protect their youngest heir. lo and behold, oliver and his grandmother came in with a plan, to lock up baron in a psyche ward in another country. at least with him out of ayrton, he could not be prosecuted, but no one else could find him in a hospital. while it was cold to oliver's grandfather and parents, oliver argued that it was for the family and company's sake.

two private jet flights and thirty-seven hours later, woo baron was not heard or seen from the world since. the company's public statement was that he decided to take a break from the business and pursue other ventures instead.

oliver maddox was established as maddox group's newest heir. it was his world now, ready for the conquer and kill.

despite not having the close training like his older brother had, it did not take long for gaon to learn on how to run his family's conglomerate. since then, he has ruled with an iron fist, waiting for the day he can completely take over the woo empire. despite his claims that he was only trying to eliminate the evils that would take down this family, was he any better with his methods to maintain and grow his power? rather did the family take out one evil with another?

perhaps, it is the small age gap between them or having to face being terrorized by the older brother, but the two youngest woo brothers were thick as thieves. while gaon was jealous of his younger brother, who was able to get away with things and pursue what he liked, the middle woo knew that they had different paths. maybe it was this thought that allowed him not to see sion as a threat, as they teamed up together to get rid of their older brother.

however, their adventure did not last long. it was in the next town with guilt racking up in him, he realized that at the end of the day he wanted power, influence, and wealth. these were things he could not secure in the position he was now at. in that moment, he decided to go back home. it was a long ride back to seoul, where their relationship ended the moment he left the car. no words or closure given.

however, gaon refused to stand up to his parents. rather he was happy to agree with them. he could not have anyone or anything holding him back, especially a family. instead, he threw some cash at muse a and told her to get out of his life. now karma is coming to bite him in the ass, years later in the form of muse a's transformation from rags to riches and a twelve year old boy.

she knew those were all lies. like her, woo baron loved and abused his status, influence, and wealth. without it, he was nothing, more worthless than a rotting carcass. once she saw how swiftly the company installed woo gaon as the family's new, she knew there was more to the story than was told.

• woo gaon: tense would the easiest way to describe things between them. she never thought much of him, gaon was not the family heir like baron and not a soccer superstar like sion. instead, he was the enemy, always waiting for a chance to take down her and baron. she could see the resentment in gaon's eyes.

• woo sion: because of his oldest brother, sion treated her like an older sister during the engagement. there were times too when he flew her and baron out to watch him play in london. this friendliness continued even after the breakup.
