Teachers should show respect towards all students and that respect will be returned if this is done. They should invest in their students lives and assure they are being flexible to meet all of their needs. Showing respect also may look like not asserting power over the students but rather learning alongside with them. - Abby Hill

in high school, my math teacher demonstrated care to me by welcoming questions about our homework and conveying their willingness to repeat a lesson if others were confused. The impact this had on me was, i did not fear asking for clarification or asking a "stupid" question. Which is important seeing as i would not understand the curriculum without asking questions. - Kristen Hanley

When trust is broken some outcomes that can happen is the individual shuts down and begins to isolate themselves. It can bring forth feelings of anger, hurt, frustration, etc. Lack of communication and collaboration can also become present. I think it can be restored over time once broken. However, it is going to take lots of effort, care, communication, and obstacles to overcome from both parties involved to restore the trust. - prue

My grade 12 history teacher demonstrated care to me by opening up her classroom to me to go to whenever I needed a safe place (i.e., spent time there during lunch, MSIP period, my spare). She never pushed me to speak if I wasn't comfortable but also ensured that if I did need someone to talk there, she was there. I had printed it off but forgot to include it in my assignment and left it at home, my teacher gave me a day to get it to her, because she understood that as students we have a lot going on and that I had completed it just forgot one part of it. She gave up her lunch break so that I did not miss my favourite class. The impact was role modelling showing me to care for others and to put others' needs before your own. - Micayla

In my grade eleven english class my teacher showed that he cared about me by taking extra time to help me understand how to write essays properly, as well as take main ideas from articles. Having him do this for me, really helped me to see that so many people are actually trying to help you out. It also impacted me by showing me that I want to be a teacher like him that gives students extra help when needed, as well as showed me that teachers are there to help. -Soleil Stephen

I believe that once trust is broken there are many consequences. The person you broke the trust with will not believe things you say anymore and will be hesitant when it comes to doing anything with you. Trust can only be restored in my opinion if the person takes time to actually show that they did not mean to break the trust. I think it should take a bit to gain this trust back as trust should not be broken in the first place if you truly care about one another.

I think that when trust is broken, a potential outcome would be that student lacking self esteem and could become resentful towards that teacher. If a student has had negative experiences related to trusting in the past and then they finally start trusting someone and something goes wrong. That student, might have trouble trusting again because they have had so many negative experiences. if trust is broken, I believe it can be restored eventually however it would probably take sometime and open communication.

The potential outcomes of trust being broken can affect relationships and overall hinder the the comfortability between student and teacher. It can overall cause a lot of tension and anger. Once it's damaged it's really hard to earn that trust back but I believe that through meaningful communication and time, trust can be potentially earned back. - Klaudia Gawrych

I think respect is both given and earned. As a student, I had respect for each of my teachers. However, my respect for teachers was either supported/grown or diminished with the experiences and reactions of my teachers. I had many teachers that although I had respect for them as educators I did not have complete respect for them outside of classes for example. It can be restored from experience, however, this may be difficult to accomplish.
