<title>Ebony: A new report on asylum seekers, refugees and human rights was released on the 30th march 2017. The aim of the report was to provide the Parliament, key commentators and the wider community a better understanding of the issues that have arisen regarding Australian refugee and asylum seeker policies. The immigration snapshot is simply an updated version of a 2013 publication that outlines the relationship between Australias policies and international obligations. The immigration snapshot outlines the positive developments surrounding the issue of asylum seekers in Australia and also notes the challenges. Commission President, Professor Gillan Triggs said that she was pleased with the decrease in overall number of people living in immigration detention centers and the release of almost all children from closed detention, and that the work rights of most asylum seekers living in the community have been reinstated. Some of the issues that are still concerning the Government are the third country processing, changes to Australia’s system for processing refugee claims and policies which discriminate against refugees based on their mode of arrival.</title>
