Empty Lot

I believe that a big lot like this can become additional housing or even a community park. This is on 2300 East right off of Fort Union (both busy streets). I believe that making a park with a section for food trucks can help drive business in the area and promote foot traffic among the nearby neighborhoods. I drove around and saw four different school within 2 miles from this lot, meaning a park would be beneficial in this community. Plus, with food trucks, there's fun for the whole family.

This entire Plaza is empty besides a bar and a sushi restaurant on the corner of it. There is an empty grocery store, empty vet, an convenience store, and an empty cafe. It occupies a giant lot with plenty of empty parking spots. It is measured at 144,193 square feet according to the Hillside Plaza website. This is in the heart of the community yet has no businesses occupying it.

This picture shows all of the empty stores within this plaza (in yellow). Only 7 out of the 22 retail spots are available. I believe that Cottonwood Heights should have an initiative to promote small, local businesses to come here and try to host their businesses here to make the community thrive again.

When driving around, the streets seemed very busy. I drove around Highland Drive to Fort Union and turned onto 2300 East, mainly. I believe there is a lot of potential in the spots I looked at. I noticed some newer outlets on Highland Drive, but none of the businesses were locally owned from what I presume. I remember a Whole Foods and Domino's Pizza in the plaza. I saw children walking from school in all different directions on the busy streets and coming out of neighborhoods. It seemed like a lot of them picked up snacks from the 7-Eleven on the corner. It made me wonder if there could be a local gathering place, like a coffee shop or cafe for the locals to get a bite to eat. I also saw bus stops going up the hill into the mouth of the canyon on Fort Union. I feel like there is potential for maybe a ski business or "ski-esque" cafe for people to come and hangout while waiting to ride up the mountain. Overall, the area I visited seemed like a place for people to pass by. There are just a bunch of roads to get you places, essentially. No one is hanging out or stopping into boutiques or shops to see each other and help boost the community. Now that I have experienced this community, I can see multiple, prospective industries that can boom in this area.
