I am teaching this course because, truthfully, I did not enjoy my children's literature course way back when I was training to be a teacher. It was in the English department and not geared toward classroom teachers. I wanted to make that different.

A book I remember from my childhood is Corduroy by Don Freeman. I adored the cozy and eerie illustrations, and the independence of the main character.

I'm particularly interested in this course because I'm getting my degree with a concentration in Language Arts education. The books I read as a child really shaped who I am today, and I think children deserve to have meaningful literature made for them. One book I really loved when I was little was My Name Is Mina.

Similar to Mary Elizabeth, I am also getting my degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Language Arts. I've always been a fan of children's books with the colourful illustrations and entertaining plots, so I'm very much looking forward to this class.

Two books I remember reading as a child is The Giving Tree by Shel Silvertein and The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. I remember thinking to myself how sad the storyline of The Giving Tree was, and the beautiful artwork in The Rainbow Fish.

I am excited for this course. Books have always been important to me throughout my life/ childhood. I am interested in diving more deeply into children's books that I barely remember or have never encountered, and exploring them from an adult perspective. One book I remember loving as a child was Stellaluna.

I'm very excited about this course :) I am taking it because it's one of the last courses I need to take for my Elementary Ed degree, and I tried taking it through a different university remotely last summer and it was horrible! I really wasn't learning anything and there was no discussion about promoting social justice. When I saw that Rachel was teaching this course remotely this spring I knew it was the perfect opportunity to complete this course!

When I was little, my favorite children's book was "A Porcupine Named Fluffy." This book is extra special to me because I was able to do my first interactive read-aloud in the classroom using this book with my Young 5s!
