The Panic of 1873 was a five-year-long financial crisis triggered by a stock market crash in Europe and the United States. It was known as the Great Depression until the more formally known Great Depression struck in the 1930's and claimed the title for itself. People were madly running to banks, mainly Jay Cooke and Co., that had failed, demanding back money that the banks formally had before bankruptcy due to failed stock investments.
