Although the ball is considered to be a projectile, it is also considered a falling object. In other words, if the same ball was dropped straight down from the same height, it would have reached the ground at the same time as the ball that was thrown with an initial outward velocity.

Without any outside forces acting on it, the cooler does not move because of friction. When the cooler is pushed, the force of friction acts in the direction opposite that of the motion. The coefficient of friction of the surface as well as the normal force applied by the surface onto the object determines how much frictional force is present. A greater coefficient means that the surface is rougher while a decreased coefficient of friction means that the surface is smoother.
