1)Telescope - I think a telescope would be very useful to them because it could show them distinct features of new plants and animals they find along the way.

2)Mosquito Curtains - Mosquito Curtains are useful on this expedition because they could shield them from not only mosquitos but a ton of bugs. Since they walk for most of their trip, they need the protection from mosquitoes to stay away from diseases because they didn’t have much medicine back then.

3)288 knifes - When your going on such a big expedition like this one you’re going to need a lot of materials, so 288 knifes will do the job. They would need knives to cut through the bushes or branches. They could also use them to cut their food.

4)Blankets - Blankets would be needed for the trip because they would keep the corps warm when they’re journey got cold. They could also use them as a picnic blanket.

5)1 long-barreled rifle that fired its bullet with compressed air, rather than by flint, spark and powder - They would need these to hunt for food in the woods. They could also use them to fight enemy tribes if needed.

Sacagawea

Sacagawea would be a good choice to bring along the expedition because she would show the Natives that the Corps were in peace and they that weren’t there to fight anybody. She was also good at navigating directions and where they should be going. She helped the Corps make friends with the Natives because she carried a baby most of the time.

William Clark

William Clark would be good for the Expedition because he was an Astronomer. He studied Astronomy and he was also really good at map making. During the expedition he made about 144 different maps of the journey. I don’t think that the Corps would have made it to the Pacific ocean without him.

Camas

Members of the Corps discovered camas. They found out that you can eat the root. The bulbs are usually around 1-5 centimeters in diameter. When you plant them they create big blue flowers that's petals are about 12 to 35 millimeters long. The Nez Perce at Weippe Praire, Idaho introduced Lewis and Clark to common camas in September 1805. Lewis wrote a very detailed description of the plant in his journal.

Clark thought the plant was delicious and that the way the women of the tribes prepared it was amazing. Camas is made boiled and nutritious. Many Native tribes ate this plant and thought it was a good food. Camas could also be used in bread.

Grizzly Bear

On their journey Lewis and Clark had discovered the grizzly bear. At first sight they were terrified of its giant size. A grizzly bear has lots of brown fur and it is very tall when it stands up. They can get as tall as 6.5 feet when it stands up, and 3.3 feet when it crawls. They have very big paws and can scratch you with their sharp claws and bite you with their sharp teeth.

They documented the grizzly bear and upon killing it, they probably thought to use its fur as a blanket or for clothes. They could also use its claws for knives or weapons. Lewis and Clark thought grizzly bears were really tough because it took a lot of rifle shots to kill the bears. They were also attacked by them when they first found the bears.

The Nez Perce

They lived west of the Rocky Mountains in scattered villages. There was around 4,000 tribe members and they all were pretty peaceful. They were excellent horsemen and they fished for salmon. They also harvested camas plants. They did not have any guns or bullets which made it hard to hunt buffalo. The chief of Nez Perce was Twisted Hair.

Three young Nez Perce boys had spotted Captain William Clark and hid behind bushes because they were scared. Mr. Clark approached them and offered them a ribbon to show that they were peaceful travelers. Communication with the Nez Perce was hard because they didn’t speak the same way. The Nez Perce were really helpful to Lewis and Clark. They gave them wood to make canoes and traded horses for goods. The indians gave the corps food and Clark treated them like a doctor. The corps also gave the Nez Perce guns. They had a very friendly relationship with the Nez Perce.
