The Problems With Teen Activism

Summary: In the article, "The Problem With Youth Activism" the author of the article teaches us about the problems and challenges with teen activism. Being an activist for some teens takes away from childhood experiances. It is also dangerous to be a teen activist becuase there are going to be many people who do not agree wiht you, and that could get dangerous when it comes to protesting. It could ven put your life at risk. Children are starting to be activists at a very young age, which is good in some cases, but it is hard for teens to understnad these hard topics they are trying to defend. Also, children do not know what they really believe in and really want to do until they have gone out and explored the world. Adult activists are starting to work with teens and help them overcome some of these problems and give them insight about what the real world is like. https://prospect.org/article/problem-youth-activism-0

Vocabulary:
Engulf- (of a natural force) sweep over (something) so as to surround or cover it completley
Culprit- a person who is responsible for a crime or other misdeed
Sanction- a threatened penalty for disobeying a law or rule
Pundit- an expert in a particular subject or field who is frequently called on to give opinions about it to the public

Muslim teen hopes to help diversify emojis with a hijab version.

Summary: Teenagers were texting in a group chat and instead of using names to identify who is who they use emojis. But there was one problem, Rayouf could not find an emoji that looked like her and she wanted to change that. So, she watched a video on snapchat on how to propose and send her idea out to Unicode. She did that and her idea was accepted. Unicode had an artist draw her idea for the proposal to apple and google. In Rayoufs own words she said that “ I wanted something that represented me, alongside the millions of women who wear headscarf’s every day and pride themselves on wearing it”. It was approved by apple and google and came out in mid-2017. You don’t need to be famous and well known to make a difference for many people Supporting Details: One piece of evidence is that this was a random girl that was 15 years old who got apple and google to accept her idea to help change the world with these new emojis. My second piece of evidence is that she is a minority. She made a huge difference for people like her. And people usually don’t listen to minorities. My third piece of evidence is that she was not even thinking about making a difference, a chance popped up to her and she took it.
https://newsela.com/read/hijab-emoji/id/21668/

The central idea of this article is about teens who have chosen to fix an issue that impacts them and their lives. In the article “we are angry “it brings attention to the teen activists in our world, or a few of them anyway that are making a big difference. Also, it brings awareness to the struggles and problems with teen activism. An example of a teen activist that occurred on this article is Shiden Tekle, age 18. he is promoting the diversity in social media. This all started when he was about 12- years old and he noticed that his other peers treated him differently that they would themselves. As this went on the more it intensely, he realized that this was a problem, soon he felt that there were acts of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia directed towards him. In response he took this to an organization and campaigned for his beliefs.
