Bismillah. For this week, I want to reflect of something we learnt from fourth week. We were having debate session on week 4. It is related to Islam and Sustainability. Is Islam sustainable?

To be honest, I would totally say that teacher made me realize something big in my life for that day. Indeed, teacher said that actually, Islam is sustainable. But, there is the biggest problem in this country.

It is due to, from the root of leadership in Malaysia influenced it. As an example, in Malaysia we always not taking serious on our first reference in life; Quran and Sunnah.

That influenced the leadership in this country. However, it is not impossible if we want to make a change on our leadership system; by putting our Holy Quran as the top reference ever.

Our fault in that matter is, always denying Quran, we take what instruction we liked the most in Quran, and we leave instruction we hatred the most in Quran behind.

The lesson learnt here; we need to make a reflection on how we as Muslim realizing the fact in Ummah nowadays. How we put Quran in life? How far we applied it in our life?

People, we need to change. NOW.

Changing our Ideology

Assalamualaikum wbt.

For the whole week until week 8, I have learnt something regarding the activity we did in class; which is by writing an essay of a challenge that was faced in implementing Sustainable Development.

I chose the third SDG, which is to implement good health and well-being. The issue we brought up is about excessive intake of unhealthy food such as Maggi products. While doing research to come up with solutions to overcome this type of intake among the community.

Before this, I was thinking that we need to have a big plan to change everything to be right, while reducing unhealthy food intake in the community. But once we learn and understand the ideology as a system of thinking, it is actually simple.

As we know too, people consume Maggi products as they have less time, and to prepare maggi, only need less effort rather than healthy food.

Consequently, we only need to change our mindset and action. By having that kind of realisation, by changing individually, other people will have the same thought to make a change in their life. Indeed, all these are processes that will take a lot of time. But, it is worth making and deciding.

From my side, I , as a consumer of Maggi, really need to stop consuming it by changing my mindset to have effortless energy to prepare healthy food.

That's all from me. Thank you.

MEASURE OF SUSTAINABILITY

Assalamualaikum wbt. This is my third entry for a reflective journal. A measure of sustainability that I understood from our class in ninth week is, Sustainability is measured by assessing performance of Social, Environmental, and Economic principles. While a balanced treatment of all three is an ideal goal, it is not always achievable. I want to focus on sustainable measures of television and media.

As we all know, the measure of media itself depends on total views, quality of the storyline, attractiveness of the actors and actress, and also the trending issue. But basically, it referred back to supply and demand. When there is supply, there is demand. All media producers never produce a film or movie, if they know nobody likes it. They are always alert and do an observation to see the trend that is really loved by the viewers.

For example, people here in Malaysia really love to watch dramatic films which contain a couple partner and sweet element between actor and actress, so the more producers will produce this kind of story. Besides, the film of LGBTQ issue, even they used Muslim actors to convey the character in it.

I see that this is really not sustainable environmentally because our newest generation is initially already exposed to free association between men and women. They assume it is normal in life and as they grow up, this will build an environment where they get used to the wrong things. Moreover, the story of the hyped lgbtq will give exposure to the Lgbtq culture which is blatantly an offense. This will create an environment that normalizes things that are opposed by sharia.

Basically, it depends on us. We have our right to choose what we want to see, what we want to hear, what we want to join and what we should avoid. And I would like to share a word that was expressed by one of my lecturers while in foundation: When we go out, when we get older, nothing stops us from making decisions, it all depends on our level of faith. It is good for us to apply what we have learned in the subject of Islamic Education and find and build a good circle to increase our faith and piety. This is because there is nothing to worry about other than our own faith and the faith of our fellow believers.

Allah SWT said which means: "And the earlier people who converted to Islam, namely the Muhajireen and Ansar and those who followed (in their footsteps) with goodness (faith and obedience), Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah and Allah provides for they are gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abide therein forever, that is the great victory. " (Surah at-Taubah, verse 100).

To be honest, there is no television provided in my house. And really my parents are really strict. And I agree with the way they educated me and my siblings. Right after that, I chose to join a good circle which is named Halaqah. In it, I understand the real meaning and importance of keeping up the faith, to share even a verse of hadith and Quran to other people. It is fitra that all people actually need to have, it is because our faith is not always on top, sometimes too weak. then we desperately need help from God and others to continue to guide.

Last but not least, we basically need to clear our mind and choose the right by staying away from what is forbidden and obeying what is commanded. It helps us to sustain in whatever we chose; economically, socially and environmentally.
