Teachers unions are the backbone of the teachers themselves. When a certain group of people are educating entire generations at a time it is easy to be overlooked. Historically teachers have been overlooked, underpaid, understaffed, and under appreciated. Unions are made to have front and make real change in not just the workplace, but education in general.
