Board of education case in 1954 which was deciding to keep or get rid of segregation in schools. The case was won and was extremely impactful in the civil rights and equal education movement and was one of the early major wins for the AFT.

In the 1960s the AFT’s president Albert Shanker, following the termination of racist white teachers in a predominately black school, demanded that they be rehired. 

In the 1920’s, the NEA had accredited the “separate but, equal” doctrine in support of segregation of schools

In 2018 the supreme court ruled that educations did not have to pay the annual fee associated with school being aligned with a union regardless of the benefit they received without being in the union. This was a major blow to Teachers unions and Schools as well because they could not pay the fees to stay within the union and have those rewarding benefits.
