Values Activity

1) Family
2) Friendships
3) Success
4) Power
5) Kindness

These values will greatly influence me over the next five or ten years and even twenty. As far as family and friendships go I hope to remain close to my family in location and relationship wise. I hope to still have many of the same friendships and I can see myself doing my best to keep the same group of friends in the next twenty years. In the next five and even ten years I hope to put myself in a position where I can be close to consider myself successful whether that is at work or with a family of my own. In twenty years I hope to be in a position of power at work, meaning that I want to be working for myself and maybe have people work for me. I want to remain kind to people and try and get better and treating everyone the way I would want to be treated. This is the goal that I hope to work on for the rest of my life and keep improving with it.

The most central of these values long term is definitely family. All the other values I can use for my family's benefit because if I am successful and kind then I can help my family member's out financially or just be close enough to them so that we can visit often. Growing up almost every Sunday my family would get together at my grandparents for dinner and I hope to continue that tradition when I start my family of my own. It is important for my parents and myself that we remain within a close driving distance of each other so all my other decisions in life will be impacted by this heavily.

Writing enables me to communicate to people in other states or different cities. It allows me to check in on family and friends to make sure that everyone is still doing well because I am in a different state for college. Writing is a big part of my life because it is much easier to send a text to my grandmas because they can respond at any time versus playing phone tag all week long to try and get a decent sized conversation in. Writing allows people to think before they speak and to reach a larger audience in such a shorter period of time.

Rhetorical Analysis Topic

Last semester I wrote a 15 page paper for my ESOC 150 class. The class title was Social Media and Ourselves. For our final paper which was 15% of our grade we had to write a 10 page minimum essay that combined elements from our first two papers we wrote for the class. I needed an A on the paper because my last two papers for this class were not that good so I could not really use much information from them to write this one. I basically started from scratch and in one night wrote a 5,000 word masterpiece that I felt was worthy of an A. I ended up getting a 95 on the paper which ensured that I got an A in the class. The whole motivation behind the writing was to simply get an A on the paper so that I could end with all A's for the semester so I was pretty stressed and tried harder on this paper than I have on any other before it.

My stress of writing this paper for an A in the class was a big influence on my writing but it turns out it was a good thing because it brought out a little perfectionist in me. I also was really invested emotionally in the paper because I was able to write about my own experiences on social media platforms and how they impact my own life. The people that made a difference in my writing were the graders of the previous two papers who gave me average grades on those which left me feeling stressed and determined to do a lot better on the final paper.

I did not really find any of her arguments all that compelling. To be honest I don't know anything about her other than she graduated from Yale and Berkeley. She seems so anti-phone and a little off her rockers because phones have allowed us to do things that never would have been possible without them. I am sure she is much smarter and definitely better educated than I am but I can't help but just ignore her arguments because she seems so one sided and crazy about something as little as a phone. Therefore, she did not change my mind about phone use. I will still use my phone how I please because there simply is too much upside of having one and using it versus not having one and being disconnected from my friends and family back home.

1) I felt that my middle paragraphs were the strongest in rhetorical analysis because those were the paragraphs where I wrote about the rhetorical analysis the most. I answered all the questions in those so I feel that is where the rhetorical analysis is at its strongest.
2) I feel like the introduction and conclusion paragraphs could use some work in terms of analysis. For the first paragraph I gave mostly background information and for the last paragraph I just summarized all my analysis so I felt it could have been better.
3) Once I have my conference I feel like I will have a better understanding of what to do as far as revisions go but for now I at least have a little bit better understanding of how to write a rhetorical analysis because I read a few people's papers who sit around me.
4) I got stuck with starting. This always happens to me so it was not anything to do with the topic of this paper. I just always struggle with beginning my papers but once I got going I was fine.
5) No, I feel the assignment sheet was pretty clear as to how to write a rhetorical analysis as well as it did a good job clarifying what you were looking for.

Monday 4/1 Should Arizona legalize recreational Marijuana.

The main viewpoints on Should Arizona legalize recreational marijuana are: No because all weed is bad, No because it has negative unseen side effects. Yes because marijuana is not bad, and lastly, Yes because people are going to do it anyways so they might as well legalize it to reduce criminal activity and tax it.

My sources that use data contribute to viewpoints and opinions

From what I have learned so far there does not seem to be enough positives to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona. The negatives outweigh the benefits.

I want this project to be about my background with marijuana and why I chose to write about it. I wanted to further my knowledge about it and start to get an understanding of why more and more people seem to use marijuana. I feel that I have done this but it does not change my opinion on the topic because I still believe in the pain reducing benefits of medical marijuana but recreational marijuana is very different and I still do not see a logical reason to legalize it.

For the revision of my Rhetorical Analysis essay I will focus on the introduction and conclusion paragraphs the most. These were the two that needed the most work. I plan on spending enough time so that I have done enough revisions so that I am satisfied with the end result. I assume it will take an hour or two. On my revised draft I would just want my peers to look at the conclusion to make sure it is better than where it was at before.
