Being athletic & good at the sport you play is one thing, but rising to an Olympic level of skill is another story. All sorts of characteristics of a person can determine if they're Olympic worthy or not, whether its their perseverance, natural ability or dedication, all in all, its surely a hard road to travel to get there. Athletes cant learn the skills they obtain in a day. It takes time and patience and having to tolerate the pain that comes along with it.
When athletes train more and more, they become better at what they do, even if it means having to give up loads of time. This is where the sacrifices come in. To make it to an Olympic level, athletes must give up their social life, their family time and their relaxation for months at a time.
Trying for the Olympics isn't only physically challenging but financially and mentally challenging as well. You don't get payed to train, so thus you must keep up with a job as well. It can seem lonely at times and there will be points where it doesn't seem worth it to be at the stadium anymore but as Steve Jobs quoted "I'm convinced that half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs to the unsuccessful ones is pure perseverance." All it takes it that extra push every time and thats how athletes can make their way to the Olympics.
