I feel that a lack of knowledge is problematic. Everyone is afraid to talk about diversity, etc. since the legislators have lost their way regarding DEIB. Of course, being who I am, I talk about it anyway. Since I teach sociology, psychology, and humanities courses, it is part of the course content in all of them. I can't change campus policy but I can educate my students. One help for our campus, though, is the globalization element. As a Scholar of Global Distinction college, we are pushing for global content in our courses, and cultural/global events on campus. It is like DEIB is the invisible Maypole, and we are using aspects of cultural competency and global studies as the beautiful strands that keep us attached. On a personal level, I benefited from DEIB before it was a thing. I was a first gen college student, single mother, and a life-long companion of poverty. I share my story to impress upon students, the importance of acceptance and assistance. It seems to help them, especially those in similar situations. Keisha, thanks for all you do. Yours is a voice of reason in these unreasonable times.

DEIB is misunderstood and it is difficult to give and get answers that help clear the air. There is a misconception caused by undereducated people sharing what they believe before fact checking the data they cite.
