Usage of Quill in the olden days:

A quill is a writing tool made from a moulted flight feather (preferably a primary wing-feather) of a large bird (even before pen was invented). Quills were used for writing with ink before the invention of the dip pen, the metal-nibbed pen, the fountain pen, and, eventually, the ballpoint pen.

For time commitment, you should prepare yourself for a very long-time companion because birds do have a long lifespan. For example, an African grey or Amazon can live up to 60 years and a cockatiel up to 25 years. Your weekly duties will be to clean out the habitat perches, structure, dishes, substrate (or habitat liner), grates, and toys. On a daily basis, you may also need to clean and refresh the water and food dishes.

All other types of birds are considered specialist. Insect eating birds feed on the wing, from the ground or crevices, or both. Birds that feed only on the wing such as swallows and martins have wide, flat beaks, designed to scoop through the air. Woodpeckers and starlings have straight, long beaks for pointing down into the ground or through the bark of trees for ants and other invertebrates.
