First, find an article that combines images and text in your local newspaper, ideally one with two or more images. If possible, identify the format used by the designer, referring to the formats described in the lecture notes. Take the whole picture of the story (including the headline, byline, text, image, caption).

Second, insert the picture and write your individual opinion right here on the padlet. Give your comments on the story design, whether it is attractive and adhered to the rules of designing a story, or otherwise. Include your suggestion to make it more attractive.

In my opinion, this story's designs is not attractive. The picture is a mugshot photo which is too small. To look more attractive we can use a vertical and colorful photo. In addition, we can add more than one photo to avoid the design become boring and colorless. As we see this story covered about the fraud that committed by Boy Iman, we can put the pictures that related to the fraud. In my opinion, I think the design of story is less attractive and clean. Most stories consist of only headline and text. The page take a wide space using full of text and had only one picture. Headline and text more along the page. The byline and caption is good and interesting. Besides that, the story used the one horizontal photo. In my opinion, I think the design of the story attractive because have clearly vertical photo and have more dramatic shape. Then, they design the story by put the text on the left side photo and the text also related with the photo. Beside that, intern of the photo position put the proper side. The headline and caption are good because have related with the text. Other that, the story in contain only one column for the text story. Based on what I had learned in lecture. This news used horizontal story design that makes the story shorter. The headline catches on reader's eyes. Readers are eager to know about the case between a mother and her son. Then, the reporter puts on hammer to make more attractive reading. Otherwise, there is mugshot located on the top right of news which makes people would stay focusing to read the news. The caption portrays the real situation on the picture. Not to forget, the reporter quoted from words of the Judge at last paragraph of the news. So that, people keep following the case and know what happened on him. As a whole, this news is very attractive related to one of the news values which is human interest. According to the picture attached, I observe that the news had been designed with a one horizontal photo which means one photo is enough to tell a story of a news. The headline of the news is written in large bolder and coloured text along with a catchy headline to attract reader’s attention. This news also contained hammer above the headline to give readers the pertinent information. This news had full-sized photo while the cutline placed above the photo, it is may considered as acceptable as long as the cutline did not extend beyond the edge of the photo. The layout of this news did not using L or U shaped text block, it is just rectangle text shape and they align together. In my opinion this story design is neat and pleasing the eyes of the readers.

The number of lines in the headline is 2 because the number of columns of the texts is 3. It is in line withthe coding formula for headlines that had been taught in the lecture. The square shape photo brings impact to the news and the cutline below it is just nice and not extend beyond the edge of the photo. I think it is enough to explain more about the photo. Besides, the news is designed in a L-shaped text block which suitable with the size of the photo. Overall, I think the designer had done his job well because it is well-organised.

Based on the photo uploaded, this news is in horizontal story design and it has 5 columns that the reporter provides for her story. The horizontal photo is U-shaped text block whereas the cutlines are 4 lines under the photo. Although the photo is a bit upper than the headline but it still looks clean and attract the reader. Headline in red is the highlight for the story and hammer headline well enough to describe the whole story. I think that the kicker is very supportive also for readers to get point the story about.

Furthermore, the article is being complemented with the picture in order to entice the readers visually. This is due to the nature of human, which the brain will be thrived with photos rather than words. In addition, the photos also are not solely being placed there but it comes with the cutline together. Besides, in order to ensure reliability of the news, the design also provide the space for liftout quote. This is a way to convince the reader that the article is not a rubbish one but can be used later for reference purposes. Last but not least, the inclusion of mugshot will spike up the reliability of the news.

Based on this news the editor using variety of design style in this story. In this news, I can see that this news contains one-lined headline at the top of the news followed by two photos below it. The shape of the dominant photo is horizontal while another one vertically shaped. The cutlines used by the editor is horizontally wrote below the two photos to explained those photos. Then, the editor wrote the news by using vertical lined text and a U-Shaped text block. In my opinion the story design was good but the story like too long to read.

It comes with vertical style which dominantly conquered by the pictures that used on the page. Besides, the page also comes with art where all story shapes rectangular and give the dominant images. Instead of using dominant images, the images used is imbalance with the text where the picture scattered half from the text. Maybe they should make the size of pictures more organized and not dominating the pages. For the idea of modular page design is consist of 5 modular. Like what have mentioned before, to make the stories fit the pages, it should done by resizing the photo to adjust the imbalance between stories and photo. Last but not least, the headline should not be put inside the pictures because it makes unpleasant for readers to catch or read the issues.
