When researching for my project, I found it very helpful to filter my search (via the advanced search option) to articles from the last year--that way, I could make sure I was finding current and relevant information. I never knew that I could filter my Google searches like this, so that's definitely good to know! The second thing I learned was how to filter my search by specifying exactly what words I was looking for and which I weren't. Again, I never knew that I could do this in a Google search, and it was very helpful in narrowing down my research.

One thing I learned from our Google search PowerPoint that I never knew before was the Google search education. I never knew this existed. I think this is a great way to incorporate new technology into the classroom. This takes a lot of pressure off of teachers when coming up with new lesson plans to educate students about technology. I'm going to have to share this one with my grandma, I am having the hardest time teaching her how to use a computer. I think this will help us tons! One other thing I learned about Google searches was when you put a dash in front of a word in the search bar it will exclude searches containing that word. I haven't been around computers my whole life or I wasn't always necessarily dependent on them. I never really learned all the tricks and trades. I'm thrilled to be in this class and hoping that I can catch up to speed with the rest of the world when it comes to new technology.

I thought the information about narrowing search results was helpful. I often will type out an entire sentence in the search bar (like the example in the slides) to find information online. But, clearly, there are more efficient ways to research and find the information you need. I've done quite a bit of online researching, but didn't know an advanced image search was even available. And I've never been one to use modifiers, so that information was new and helpful!
The one challenging thing will be using this information instead of relying on my self-learned way of researching.

I thought that from the Google search Powerpoint was very helpful. Google search helps to narrow down the search for specific information that you are looking for. I think that this will be helpful for the students when they are doing their assignments or projects on their specific topic that they are assigned to. Every time I research something, I make sure to have a phrase or a sentence that incorporate all the aspects. But from this, I learned that having few words can help you narrow down and find information faster.

especiallyTwo of the most interesting things that I learned in the "Google Search Tips and Skills" PowerPoint were how to use the "define:" and "site" modifiers to get more specific search results. I also did not know that you could further refine a search using the "Recent" button under the filters bar. The teaching resources section of the presentation was especially helpful, because I was previously unaware of the education on Google searching that Google themselves provide

Most of the information in the Google Search Tips and Skills slideshow was information I had already learned during my graduate program. I didn't know about the Google A Day site and I just love that. Definitely want to start using that daily to keep my searching skills up. I also learned about the Google Search Lesson Plans. I had no idea about this resource and I am really excited to explore it! These lesson plans are an amazing starting place for teaching search skills in an elementary school library.

There were a number of things that I learned but a couple of things really stood out. The google lesson plans seemed like it would be a very useful tool when making lesson plans. There were a number of ideas and ways to implement them. I think the thing that really stood out the most to me was the modifiers to type in the Google search box. Not only do these modifiers help to get a more precise answer to your search, but they also allow you to use less words; something I need a lot of work on!

I think could be a great resource that will not only keep the students interested, but will help me to keep coming up with interesting content each day. I also didn't know about Google Lesson Plans before this week. It seems to be organized in a simple, easy to navigate way. I think it will be a great resource to have. I love using anything Google related so it's great to have another tool, especially for teaching.

Having grown up taking computer classes and taught and retaught how to best search for relevant information I wasn't sure that I would find two new things. I was happily surprised! I wasn't aware that google has whole lesson plans directed to younger students and how they can best take advantage of google. That might be a valuable resource to use in my future primary classroom! The second thing I found useful was the advanced google search. It wasn't a new tool to me, but something I haven't used for a long time and had forgotten about. I look forward to exploring those lesson plans in the future!!

I grew up using computers at home as well as in school. Ever since the 4th grade, my classrooms operated on a 1:1 ration. Because of this I have lots of basic knowledge about conducting searches. However I did not know that "site" and "-" can be used as modifiers. Also, I was not aware of the presence of the search literacy lesson plans provided by Google. These are great ways to teach students internet efficiency as well as safety.

Also, the "a google a day" is super fun and could get addicting. It makes me think of the website "Kahoot!", which my practicum teacher just showed me. She used it and it worked really well! I already knew about the google search modifiers but I always forget to use them when I am googling things. I am a googler that clicks on the first link and just uses that.

Most of the tips I knew, but I have never used the find similar or exclude tricks. I loved "A Google Day" and it almost distracted me from this assignment. It reminded me of a game called GeoGuessr. I think it's driven by google maps and has a similar concept, but uses street view instead of search. It drops you at a location and you have to use the street view to navigate and determine where you are.
