In 1866 Alfred discover that if you mix nitroglycerin with diatomite the nitroglycerin becomes less explosive.

He also invented the detonator and he discovered that if you put a detonator cord in the detonator and then put it into the nitroglycerin you can control the explosive force. The dynamite was a great impact in the whole world and it is still used today.

The prize is a goldmedal that weights 240 grams and they have looked the same since 1902. On one side of the medal it is a picture of Alfred Nobel and on the other side it is the name of the prizewinner and which year. The prizewinner also gets money.

The prize in physics and chemistry is elected by the royal knowledge science academy in Sweden. 

Karolinska institutet in Sweden is elected the prize in physiology and medicine. 

The literatureprize is elected by the Swedish academy for literature.

The peaceprize is elected by a committee in Oslo, Norway and it is the only prize that isn’t presented in Sweden.

He was there a lot. He wanted to buy some land to test the dynamites explosive device. But the locals were not happy about that.

Instead he bought a company called AB Bofors Gullspång and established a laboratory there. Today this company is called Bofors and still manufactures explosives.
