Motivations are the reason we do something.

My motivations for outdoor experience would be socialisation, getting to be with friends and complete the activity with them but also for competence/mastery and cognitive reward which is learning something new, experiencing flow and an adrenalin rush as well as building strength through participation in the activity. These are all intrinsic.

Over time and throughout the activity your motivations might begin to change because you may have reached your beginning goal and want to set a higher goal.
</sup>

Something that is natural comes from nature itself.

Ways the term natural can be used are things such as a natural environment, natural science or natural development. Things that are unnatural are seen as untouched by humans and have business being where they are for example a eucalyptus tree, an echidna or a tropical rain forest are all examples of natural things. Unnatural on the other hand is when humans change the environment in ways that benefit them.

Examples of unnatural things are the introduction of rabbits into Australia, the rose gardener in someones front yard or a downhill ski skope since each of these occurs only because human impact in or on a particular place.

The Wilsons Promontory National Park

Wilsons promontory would be considered a natural environment because it is full of native flora and fauna. It has not been modified by humans.

Things I would consider unnatural at Wilsons Prom would be some flora and fauna, modifications such as walking tracks and camping ground is also not natural as it has been human modified. Things like cars parked, road signs and buildings are also unnatural aspects at Wilsons prom.

The purpose of a national park such as Wilsons Prom is National park is for the preservation of the natural environment. A national park may be set aside for purposes of public recreation and enjoyment or because of its historical or scientific interest.

These places are important for humans to visit because they serve environmental, economic and cultural purposes. It is important for us to see what the land really is without it being modified but also as a way to relax and enjoy the nature that we live in.

I think that the tidal river campground is important to the national park because it allows people to camp there and stay for their desired time. This allows people that live long distances to also get the opportunity to visit the park.

At Wilsons Prom National Park an example of someone being there for recreation or activity would be the public that is visiting. The families that are camping there or anyone that is enjoying the space and using it to go to the beach, hike etc. Someone using it for a spiritual connection could be an Indigenous Australian or someone sleeping on the ground, listening to nature etc. An outdoor environment as a study site is a location or place where investigation analysis and other activities occur in the pursuit of knowledge. There are many people who use this as a study site such as scientists, students, land managers, volunteers and outdoor education companies.

<sup>
</sup>

2 different ways humans can respond to an outdoor experience is; connection - a feeling that we are a part of a place or connected to that place. It can come with spiritual feelings or feelings of the wondrous nature of an environment. Another way is awe - a feeling of wonder or admiration for an outdoor environment. For example, taking in the beautiful view, or wondering how it was created.

To be in a 'flow' state it means you are doing something with such concentration that nothing else matters. Time goes really quickly. When you are in a flow experience you feel at one with the world, you let go of your worries and problems, you are completely focused, and you're happy.

Safe participation in outdoors

The 3 types of risks are environmental risks - risks that originate from the outdoor environments themselves and can have an impact on the activity. These include factors such as weather, terrain, the availability of shelter and the remote aspect of many outdoor environments as well as the inherent dangers associated with some Australian flora and fauna. There are also risks associated with people - these risks can be connected to the people involved in outdoor activities, such as leaders and participants, as well as other people that groups might encounter. They include such factors as the skills, knowledge, experience, health and fitness, age, fears and other emotions that participants bring to an outdoor experience. There are also risks associated with equipment - these risks can be associated with the specialist equipment that we use on outdoor trips, and the equipment used to get to the places that we visit. They include such things as clothing, buoyancy aids, kayaks, surfboards, bikes, tents, climbing ropes, helmets, motor vehicles and fuel stoves.

2 safety precautions for hiking in the outdoors would be making sure you are always with someone or someone who has your location at all times and making sure you bring enough water and drink it slowly and in small amounts so you can make sure it lasts the whole hike.

2 safety precautions for cooking in the outdoors would be bringing foods that will last and not go off and also remembering that you will have to carry all your waste back out with you. You need to be aware of where you're setting up to cook making sure it's in an open area away from anything flammable.

To me the biggest safety precaution to take while surfing at Wilsons Prom would be knowing where its safe. Making sure to be aware of currents, rocks, rips, strong winds. Also making sure someone knows where you went surfing and was there incase of an accident.
