I think that everything bad that happened in her life made her know her worth, and knew she was a independent that could succeed and would succeed.

aim high- the turning point in this story was him helping his sister with math problem, after he wanted to help other learn too. " Eventually, my sister began to learn much faster at school; however, the daily tutorials with my sister, watching her ability and confidence grow, left me with the desire to help others.

"

onion-

this student grew up in a very abusive house hold and with little money. her change was that she saw strength in herself instead, though the image of her father kept appearing in her mind she was able to proceed when she saw the strength in her mother. her mother left her father and that shook her. she pushed herself to keep doing honors classes.

Aim High- "I recall the first time I helped my sister understand multiplication, it was like the entire world was revealed to her. Her dark brown eyes locking with mine, her wide grin not one quite of surprise but wonder, ended with a gentle nod of appreciation and love." The author saw how education was the key to success but also the key to growing and learning new things. When he saw her eyes and her smile, he knew that she was full of questions, she wanted to know more.
Onions- "Remembering that day my mother took my sister and I down an uncertain road, I felt an indefinable vulnerability. In that moment of vulnerability, ironically, I found a source of strength which will drive me through any challenges that lay ahead in college and beyond." The author took her pain and vulnerability and turned it into strength and perseverance. Those skills helped her get through the honors program and YYGS, she wanted to quit, she wanted to give up. But her experiences with abuse and her background changed her for the better. She used her pain to become stronger, she didn't play the victim card. She wasn't a victim, she was a survivor.

Aim high: when the author said "watching her ability and confidence grow, left me with the desire to help others." gave him the motivation to try and feel more "useful" it sounds bad but helping others also gives others hope.

Onions: When the author had the chance of going out of their way to help they kept pushing. They said "Remembering my mother’s strength, I stayed, and discovered
through academic success the kind of satisfaction only perseverance can bring." This point is where everything could of changed, if they didn't continue fighting.
