"All we had to do was find gold, Dad said, and we were on the verge of that." This represents the theme of broken promises because the prospector was promised to deliver gold and never did. Although the prospector was finished. Therefore, Rex was not able to keep his promise, so we can relate it to the picture because they can't get the gold.

"If you spend one night in some town, did you live there? What about two nights? Or a whole week?" The reason why i had chosen this quote is because it helps explain how the walls family is always moving and never staying in one place because they always end up moving because something happens. No matter how much they love a place they will keep moving and going forward until they accomplish their "Glass Castle". We can relate this picture because this family seems calm while living in chaos on the streets just like the Wall's.

"He tried stopping before, but it never lasted." "This time it will." "How do you know?" It's his present to me." This quote shows how the family was affected by Rex's drinking throughout the book. Jeannette's father was a drunk and didn't provide for his family as well as he thought. He kept saying that he was going to do things but never did. He tried to quit drinking a Jeanette's birthday present but failed. The story revolves around how Rex was always limited by his addiction. This shows how rex always chose alcohol over his kids and broke their hope. We can relate the picture to the theme because the man is contemplating whether or not to drink just how Rex contemplates on taking care of his family or drinking.

"I waited for what seemed like a long time before I decided it was possible Mom and Dad might not come back for me. They might not notice I was missing. They might decide that it wasn’t worth the drive back to retrieve me; that, like Quixote the cat, I was a bother and a burden they could do without." This shows the theme of abuse because she was so scared that they would leave her since she already saw what they would do to something or someone that was a minor inconvenience, so she believed they would not come back for her and leave her to fend for herself. We can relate this picture with the theme because the boy is expecting to be hurt like how she is expecting to be abandoned.

"When other girls came in and threw away their lunch bags in the garbage pails, I'd go retrieve them." This quote explains the picture because it is an example of Jeannette eating the kids trash because she had nothing to eat. This represents the theme of self-sufficiency because Jeannette and Brian had to be self-sufficient because they had no food to eat at school.

“You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that.” This picture of the words tolerance and acceptance represent how Jeannette dealt with the struggles when she was a child, and it applies to the theme because Jeannette accepted her position
