The flu first started at 1918 in Europe, United States and several parts of Asia. It was able to spread so quickly because there were no effective vaccines or drugs to treat patients who have contracted the virus. Public places were closed and it was necessary for the citizens to wear masks when in public but this did not slow the progression of the virus. It eventually became a worldwide pandemic in a short period of time.

The pandemic eventually came to and end at the summer of 1919 because everybody who had been infected by the virus had died or had developed an immunity. However, research of virus still took place and 90 years later, it was discovered that the reason he flu was so incredibly deadly was because it was a group of 3 genes that caused the victim's bronchial tubes and lungs, causing them to quickly develop pneumonia. Several other influenza pandemics occurred but fortunately they weren't as deadly. The most noteworthy ones happened at 1957 which killed 2 million people and 1968 which killed 1 million.

The sick experienced such typical flu symptoms as chills, fever and fatigue, usually recovered after several days. The influenza virus invaded victims' lungs and caused pneumonia (an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs).
The virus is highly contagious. When an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, respiratory droplets are generated nearby.
