When students see authors in the classroom it can be inspirational ! If you only read books, but never thought about where the books come from, you may not make the connection between books and real life, or books and a career. Students can be inspired to pursue a career in writing. Authors can also find inspiration from the students, they bring new perspectives, new opinions and more.

1: How would you work to connect peoples online personas with their ‘IRL’ identities.

We see throughout the novel how people distance themselves from their online behaviours. For example, Teagan saying ‘he didn’t need that spine anyways’ and Draven not recognizing how his online actions have deep rooted real life consequences.

2: What was your main inspiration behind incorporating media literacy and addiction in this novel.

These aren’t topics commonly explored in tandem, but it is interesting to see how media can so easily become an addiction. We often look at addiction in an extreme way, and overlook things we don’t view as an ‘unhealthy’ addiction.
