The analysis of CCTV by Meena and Chen Bangrui
As the criminal rate has increased in recent years, more CCTV is needed to monitor offenders in order to prevent the criminal activities. Although Burton&Whitbread(2015) indicated that there is not enough evidence to prove the effectiveness of CCTV system, the research of Bathurst(2015) claimed that the criminal rate has dramatically decreased at almost 30% where CCTV covered. Furthermore, another argument shown that CCTV system could cost a large amount of money by both Armitage(2014) and Burton&Whitbread(2015), it ascribed that every camera on CCTV may be spent 12,000 pounds. However, this investment is worth to spend, since CCTV can record around 40% criminal activities that lead to be caught and arrested relatively more efficient(Bathurst, 2015). To sum up, it could be seen that CCTV is a efficient solution to decrease the criminal rate.

Nowadays, security has become an important aspect among citizen, especially when is necessary to reduce the level of crime in neighbours, therefore it could be interesting to respond if CCTV have been effective in reduce the crime, where it should be necessary to review statistics of less criminal activities, costs or another alternatives more effectiveness. This essay will argue that CCTV, possibly, do not offer an effective response to reduce de crime, having another alternatives less expansive.

On the one hand, some results of studies could be considered to evaluate as an advantage the use of CCTV. According to Burton & Whitbread (2015) and Bathurst (2015) the criminal rate can be reduced on average approximately 35%, allowing also to have positives results in order to catch thieves (Armitage, 2014 & Bathurst, 2015).

In contrast, these arguments could not be reliable in the long term, because the percentages of criminal activities had decreased in almost a third.

On the other hand, some opponents claim that it cost too much to use CCTV, and government need to spend for the following maintaining or running (Burton & Whitbread, 2015). Armitage (2014) supports this point , he finds that it may cost 12000 for each camera. In other hand, Burton and Whitbread (2015) also state that CCTV seems to be not effective enough in controlling the crimes. Shanks’s (2016) study suggests the same view. He have found that even street lighting can increase the efficiency in reducing crime which obvious more cheaper than a camera. Besides, he shows that after a period of time, it could become less use compared with the first time An example a town supports that it is not useful.
