An appeal is when you apply to a higher court in hopes that they will change the decision. Appellee- defending against appeal, must prove that the origional decision was correct or that any errors were not significant enough to change the outcome, prepare a brief
Affirm- superior court agrees with lower court and nothing changes
Reverse- superior court overturns the lower court's decision
Remand- the superior court sends the case back to the trial court for further action or new trial

Judges make a decision based on written case record, the briefs submitted by parties, and maybe an oral argument. In the Oral argument, lawyers from both sides usually have about 15min. to present arguments to court, here judges may ask questions.
