My name is Lucía Martínez and I am currently a first-year student at The University of Texas at Austin. I speak English, Spanish and French. I am following a pre-med track, double-majoring in Biochemistry and French. I am also part of the UT Equestrian (yes, equestrian as in horse) Team. In my free time I mostly sleep, hangout with friends, play sports or practice sutures on fake arms, (it's not as creepy as it sounds, I promise)

Originally, I am from a city in the north of Spain named San Sebastián. However, my family and I left behind San Sebastian and have lived in London (UK), Houston (USA), Monterrey (Mexico), Madrid (Spain) and now Austin (USA). Having moved eight times in fourteen years always leads to people asking me the same question: "What place has been your favorite?" Saying that I have enjoyed them all equally might sound cliché, but I truly believe that every place and culture has something new and interesting to offer if you are open enough to perceive it.

This is a screenshot from the Ford homepage in Argentina. It is an example of particularism. The company took the time to modify and adapt all the webpages to fit into different countries. For example, in Argentina, the word "descubrilo" is how one usually says "to discover" in Argentina. In other Spanish speaking countries however, this word would not be used. In Spain for example, the website says "descúbrelo." Ford decided to acknowledge the differences in dialect and use the specific terms used in the specific country to properly target the consumers.

The flyers advertised an event where a famous speaker was going to come in and discuss topics related to transgender and gender identity. The bottom line of the lecture was that everyone has "a bit of transgender in them." This is an example of particularism because focuses and deals with something unique and different. Furthermore, by saying that everyone has a bit of transgender in them, it may seem like the event is imposing something unique and particular onto everybody, even though they may not have a personal connection to transgender.

All rooms are identical, two beds, two dressers, two desks, two, two chairs, two closets a window and a sink. Also, the teacher specifies that this rule stands for every case and will not be changed for any reason. The objective is to see what team can build the tallest tower and not collapse. This is a really good example of communitarianism because the success of the entire group relies on them all working together. If one person slips, the entire tower will collapse. I have attached both a video and a picture of the base of one of these towers to show how the bottom (the people holding up essentially the most weight) are supported by the concentric circles of people around them.

This is a picture of a sun clock. Based on where the sun is during the day, a sun clock can tell the time. However, this is not an exact time, and more of an approximation. This is an example of synchronic time because it is not categorized and detailed. For example, there is probably such a small difference between 7:01 and 7:02 times on the clock that the sun clock would be an inaccurate way to tell the exact time. This method would show an approximation, but the exact senses of present, past and future would be blended.
