The thing that has the greatest impact on my culture is the music. In Trinidad we all many different types of music but my favorite is soca and reggaeton. In the caribbean we have a lot of different styles of music that we just cant help but dance to!

As far as impacting my sense of identity, it has impacted me a lot. I love music, it is many of the few things I feel close to. And I know it was the different types of music that helped my ancestors survive.

I think music is a big thing in the latin community and I think it has a lot of different ways to connect multiple different hispanic cultures. Not only do I fit into multiple countries because of the music I listen too but I love how I know so much about cultures through their music. It's impacted me because it has widened my knowledge about what I know about my people. I don't think my name reflects my culture that much but It does a little because it does sound hispanic but you can't really just place it into a certain culture in my opinion.

The greatest influence on my cultural experience is a tie between music and food. Food is a huge part of Brazilian culture, as majority of my family gatherings include Brazilian barbecue and traditional feijoada. Everyone’s eating together family style, everyone’s laughing, enjoying time together. As we eat Brazilian Bossa Nova is playing. Very soothing, calm, jazzy music. My Brazilian culture is something I’m very proud of and it definitely has to do with the time I spent participating in traditional Brazilian as a child. It has played a huge part in the person I am today and I’m very thankful I was exposed to my roots at a young age.

Something that has an influence on my culture are the knitted rosary bracelets. I've only been to Guatemala a handful of times so Im not very connected to my culture there but when my family send the bracelets in the mail it reminds me that they care about me, I'm a part of the family, and even though I live in America I will always be Guatemalan. Another thing that always remind me is that over year my dad lets us open one gift on Christmas eve because in Guatemala they celebrate Christmas on the 24th.

The greatest influence has to be my grandmother from my mother's side. She is my greatest influence to my traditional culture experience because as a little girl I have so many great memories with that grandmother that allowed me to love my culture and where my true roots come from. Being a Latina is the most thing that I am proud to be, from the food to the music and the way my island supports one another. Growing up my favorite thing to do was watch my grandmother cook her amazing meals and sew, our food is one of a kind and I'm so glad my grandmother past the gift to my mother and now my mother teaches me how to cook just like them an i get to pass on that tradition willingly to my future kids and teach them the basics my grandmother passed on to me.

I feel as my last name reflects a lot with my traditional cultural identity. My last name is very unique and I remember asking my father where our last name came from and I just know that it came from my family in Puerto Rico and In the past year i've came in touch with so many relatives with the same last name. Even though as a little girl I kind of hated my last name I grew up to love it and appreciate its uniqueness and respect it because who knows , I most likely have ancestors that fought and went through so many rough
trials and tribulations.

The greatest influence is my mother and her side of the family. They taught me most of what I know about Jamaican culture. From food, attire, and music that allowed me to feel connected with my "traditional culture". I identify as Jamaican and American because Patois and English was taught to me at the same time. I was born and raised in the U.S. but at home growing up everyone was just coming up to the U.S. still spoke with thick accents and I caught on quick in my early years so it's a verbal switch I can turn on and off. I love my culture.
