Both stories were depressing. They had themes of death and abandonment, and depressing tones. O'Conner makes me imagine sweaty, uncomfortable, grimy days. They are set in the south (DUH) and we know this because Shiftlet is going to Mobile, implying he is in Alabama, and in a good man is hard to find the states they are in are named as theydrive through. One similarity was the appearance of deformities and malformed beings. One of the biggest similarities is the setting. Both stories are set in the south, presumably Georgia. Both stories also have disabled antagonists, either physically or mentally. Both of the stories’ endings are dark. In AGMHF, the whole family dies and in TLYSMBYO the family of the old woman and here daughter are separated and probably never meet again. They were pretty much always long rambling monologues or a question. Because these guys have some SERIOUS ADD.
2) In both of O'Connor's stories, freaks were featured. A man with one arm, and a man who called himself "The Misfit", so obviously some personal issues going on there.  
3) All of the characters in both stories were imperfect. They were either selfish, retarded, physically grotesque, rude, just downright crazy, or unable to focus on one thing for more than three seconds.
