Devlin This story is a satire because it makes fun of Mr. Kong’s goal to get the largest Mao button. He risks his life and his family’s life to get a big Mao button. He almost trades his wife and children's buttons for a big button. He risks his own life in a dark alley with a stranger. You should not buy stuff without thinking it through.

The story is a satire because it makes fun of a lifestyle in which everybody has a button that has a picture of Mao and people make such a big deal about the size. This is a joke on how much one person cares about them and about how easily they break. This means that someone cares about something with little value.

The story is satire by showing Kong taking family buttons, running off, and just being stupid about who has the biggest button. The authors message is don't worry about size, shape, big, small, loyalty or being ao trader. Just do you and don't try and be better than anyone cause it never end well unless you stop.

Mr. Kong got the biggest button after trading his buttons to Mr. Wang so he could complete his Mao button collection. However, he ended up getting in trouble when the button dropped and he stepped on it and people thought he was disloyal to chairman Mao. The irony here is that he did something good, but him stepping on the button people thought he was disloyal.

When he went through all the trouble for nothing when could've went upstairs to bargain his Mao buttons for the bigger one; which is the irony/satire part. The author’s message is to not jump into trouble and steal people's stuff etc. and be patient and ask for permission.

Maybe the author wants to show that he has a bad life and makes fun of him for trying to hard. By him doing anything, even taking his own family's buttons, that he will try and get the best button, there by showing that he's just trying to hard. The main sign is that some people don't have it that good and try too hard, and will do to much (as to even walk in an ally with a stranger) to get the best Mao button there is.

The irony of the story is that he spent so much time and effort into getting this amazing button. Once he got it he had all the respect he could take, and then stepped on the button. He was then precieved as disrespectful. That is what I call irony.

This story is a satire because because Mr. Kong tries to outdo Mr. Chen because of his bigger button. This is absurd because Mr. Chen didn’t even brag about his button or say anything towards Mr. Kong that would hurt his feelings. The story ridicules Mr. Kong because when Mr. Chen walks by he thinks “Oh he must think he’s so better because he has a bigger button,” and he lets the button get the best of him. The author’s message for the reader is the value of a button is not the value of you.

He wants the reader to understand that giving away everything for something useless isn't right. And it is a satirist because of the way that kong just mindlessly takes all the mao buttons to trade. Also he does it just to beet his boss at something , that isn't a good idea . Also a mao button that may take your life's savings to pay for isn't worth it in my opinion
