2. This quote reveals that Mr. Spencer both respects the rules and those that follow them. He clearly has a bond with Holden, but does not like the fact that he disregards any form of rules, like school.
3. Holden does like Mr. Spencer, and he respects him, but he does not like being told what to do as he prefers to go about everything his own way.

2. Stradlater is confident and popular among the ladies. He is able to be recognized among a sea of pictures simply due to his looks. 
3. Holden is jealous of his roommate but in denial over it. He constantly praises him by his ability to get dates but reassured himself he is not jealous. Holden is always contradicting himself.

2. Phoebe is mature for her age. In this quote, she is just a little girl, but already catching on and understanding the conversations between them.
3. Holden sees himself and Phoebe as similar and it shows that he only like people who are similar to him. He doesn't like anything that goes against what he believes in.

2. Sally is a realist. She knows that leaving the city with Holden wouldn't be possible. She is a little annoyed with Holden suggesting something like this.
3. Holden is getting worse. He is now beginning to yell without noticing. He is mad that Sally won't run away with him impulsively, which is an absurd idea and he doesn't even notice.

2. Luce sees Holden as childish and immature. He is able to see that Holden might need to see someone and get help. Eventually, Luce cannot deal with Holden's immaturity and leaves.
3. Holden knows that he is not that interesting to Luce but still tries to hang out with him because Luce "amused" him. He doesn't really see him as a friend, but more as a way to pass the time.
