How do the steps that Vargas takes compare to those of other totalitarian rulers at the time?

1) In an economic sense since the exporting of coffee and other goods sharply declined following the great depression, Brazil lost a lot of foreign investment and money.  In a political sense led to the rise of fascist dictators. 
2) Vargas as well as many other leaders at the time took control of people and their everyday lives. He was able to destroy the value of a single dollar making it pretty much worthless by producing too much too quickly.
