Another reason for not increasing population is that it may cause a series of resource problems. According to O' Sullivan(2016), Australia, which is a dry continent with water shortage and fragile land, may not be maintained food- supplying in drought years and it may affect over 30 million people. As a result, most of Australia's capital cities are relying on desalination for water security in droughts and decreasing exports of irrigated crops.

Monica+Cynthia
Another reason for not increasing population is that it might cause resource shortage. This is because a larger population requires more natural resource which may not afford enough food supply in drought years . According to O’Sullivan (2016) , most big Australian cities are lack of freshwater and irrigated crops. For these reasons, local government should not increase population dramatically to ensure an adequate resource supply.

Another argument for increasing population is that it may lead to the shortage of resources. This is because the consumption of various resources such as water and soil might increase constantly. O’Sullivan (2016, p.18) believes that an increase of polulation may negatively affect Australia’s water and food security. Therefore, the government should not encourage increasing population , then the issue of scarcity of resources may be resolved efficiently.

According to O’Sullivan(2016), insuffcient water and fertile soil have always been serious problem for Australia. Most capital cities in Australia in desperately need for water so they use desalination for water security in droughts. Moreover, the output of irrigated crops have been reduced. Thus, Australia should control its population because that it will not be food secure in drought years with over 30 million people.
