1. Phishing: Hackers will utilize false phishing emails, websites, and SMS messages to obtain sensitive personal or organizational information from unsuspecting victims, which is the most common method of applying social engineering.

2. Spear Phishing: This email fraud is used to launch targeted attacks on people or businesses. Spear phishing is more difficult than mass phishing because it needs extensive research on possible targets and their organizations.

3. Baiting: This form of attack can be carried out both online and in person. In exchange for sensitive information or knowledge of its whereabouts, the cyber criminal frequently promises the victim a reward.

4. Malware: Victims are emailed an urgent message and fooled into installing malware on their device in this type of assault, which includes ransomware (s). In an ironic twist, one common strategy is to inform the recipient that malware has already been installed on their computer and that the sender will remove the software if they pay a charge.

5. Tailgating: This attack is aimed against a person who can provide a criminal with physical entry to a secure building or area. These scams are frequently successful because of a victim's misplaced civility, such as holding the door open for an unknown "staff."

and many more..

1. Delete any request for personal information or passwords. Nobody should be contacting you for your personal information via email unsolicitedly. If you get asked for it, it’s a scam.

2. Reject requests for help or offers of help. Social engineers can and will either request your help with information or offer to help you (i.e posing as tech support). If you did not request any assistance from the sender, consider any requests or offers a scam. Do your own research about the sender before committing to sending them anything.

3. Set your spam filters to high. Your email software has spam filters. Check your settings, and set them to high to avoid risky messages flooding into your inbox. Just remember to check them periodically as it is possible legitimate messages could be trapped there from time to time.

4. Secure your devices. Install, maintain and update regularly your anti-virus software, firewalls, and email filters. Set your automatic updates on if you can, and only access secured websites. Consider VPN.

5. Always be mindful of risks. Double check, triple check any request you get for the correct information. Look out for cybersecurity news to take swift actions if you are affected by a recent breach.

The term "social engineering" refers to a wide range of malevolent behaviors carried out through human relationships. It employs psychological manipulation to dupe users into committing security errors or disclosing sensitive information.

Lifecycle of Social Engineering:
A perpetrator first investigates the intended victim to gather background information needed to carry out the attack, such as potential points of entry and weak security protocols. The attacker then attempts to acquire the victim's trust and give stimuli for later acts that violate security norms, such as disclosing sensitive information or granting access to key resources.
