In the second session, students were introduced to Augmented Reality (AR) — a topic that seemed challenging at first. Through interactive AR applications and practical exercises, they learned how technology can transform learning into an exciting, immersive, and innovative experience.

Through these activities, the team gained new knowledge in AR, discovered practical ways to apply STEAM concepts, and strengthened their collaboration skills.

We are proud to share our vision of AR in education and how it can make subjects like biology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, mathematics, history, and art come alive in the classroom.

1. Students, in groups, design a prototype of a new learning app:

   • Choose a subject the app will be used for (math, art, history, sports).

   • Give it a fun name. Decide what the app will do to help students learn in an interactive, fun way.

2. Make a presentation about your new app prototype - could be a poster, a PPT , a digital version, etc. Present your prototype to other teams.

The presentation begins with an introduction to our learning journey, followed by a look at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, where students discovered Moldova’s cultural and natural heritage. Next, they presented a handmade Eiffel Tower model, crafted from wooden sticks, representing patience, precision, and creativity.

The students also shared their favorite mobile apps, explaining how technology can support learning and entertainment in everyday life. One of the highlights of the presentation is the original mini-video project called “Minion Apparition.” In this fun and artistic activity, students drew their own Minions and brought them to life through animation and sound, transforming static images into a lively short film.

Finally, the presentation explores the school laboratory, where students experimented with plant cells and microscopic structures, connecting theory with real scientific observation.

Overall, this project reflects the students’ dedication, cooperation, and enthusiasm for learning in new and creative ways. It shows how education can be both informative and enjoyable — combining science, art, and imagination into one inspiring experience.

During the month of October, within the framework of the project “STEAMing Across Borders – Empowering Girls Through Science,” coordinated by the Academy for Innovation and Change through Education (AISE), with the support of UN Women Moldova and the financial assistance of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, students from the Public Institution Theoretical Lyceum “Mihai Eminescu” in Chișinău actively engaged in the use of innovative digital applications such as 3DBear, Blippar, Delightex.edu, and VR Glasses to enhance and enrich classroom learning.

Under the guidance of their teachers, these cutting-edge technologies were successfully integrated across multiple subjects, promoting interdisciplinary and experiential learning.

3DBear was utilized during English lessons to strengthen students’ vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills through interactive exercises and educational games.
Delightex.edu was implemented in biology classes to explore augmented reality content, enabling students to visualize biological structures, processes, and phenomena in 3D, thereby fostering a deeper understanding through immersive learning experiences.
Blippar was applied in STEM activities (mathematics and physics), where students designed 3D models such as cubes, pyramids, and other geometric shapes, as well as virtual projects that stimulated creativity, critical thinking, and digital literacy.
VR Glasses provided students with opportunities to explore interactive 3D environments for learning, design, and creativity. Through virtual simulations, students could conduct science experiments, visualize mathematical and engineering concepts, create digital art, and experience realistic virtual environments—making STEAM learning more dynamic and engaging.

Collectively, the integration of these applications contributed to the development of a stimulating, interactive, and innovation-driven educational environment, empowering students to acquire 21st-century skills and actively participate in creative, technology-enhanced learning experiences.

STEAM Explorers Visit the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church, Căușeni

Today, the STEAM Explorers had the wonderful opportunity to visit the historic Church of the Virgin Mary in Căușeni. The students were fascinated by its unique architecture, ancient frescoes, and the harmony of art and spirituality reflected in every detail. This visit allowed them to experience beauty, history, and culture in an authentic and meaningful way.

Although STEAM focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, its purpose is much broader: to help students explore the world through curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. The visit to this remarkable church is a perfect example of how these disciplines come together:

• S – Science: Understanding how materials endure over centuries and how the interior paintings were preserved.

• T – Technology: Discovering the construction techniques used in ancient times and comparing them with modern methods.

• E – Engineering: Observing the structural design of a building partially buried in the ground and exploring how it has remained stable for hundreds of years.

Following the snowman, Alina Zaiciuc presents a brilliant twist on a holiday staple: a Christmas tree made entirely from repurposed plastic forks. These forks were painted a deep forest green to create a realistic needle-like texture and were finished with a bright red star and colorful cotton spheres. Together, these creations highlight the core mission of the STEAMinions: using science, technology, engineering, art, and math to solve environmental challenges and inspire the community. This project was captured and edited by Andrei Zavtur, documenting the hard work and ingenuity of these young creators. We hope these recycled wonders inspire you to think outside the box and make your own holiday season a little greener!

Our work began in the workshop, where we focused on creative recycling. Carina Zadornova led the construction of our "Recycle Snowman," a life-sized figure meticulously assembled over many hours using hundreds of clear plastic cups. Following that, Alina Zaiciuc reimagined the traditional holiday centerpiece by crafting a Christmas Tree made entirely of repurposed plastic forks. Painted forest green and topped with a bright red star, these projects prove that with a little imagination, almost any material can be given a second life.

But our creativity didn't stop at the classroom door! The team also traveled to the beautiful town of Holercani to attend a local concert. We documented every moment of the experience—from the high-energy bus ride to the vibrant musical performances we watched on stage. To tie our love for design into our travel footage, we even used a unique glass cup designed like a stack of books as a visual transition throughout the film.

How We Worked Together: This project was a true collaborative effort. The original idea was sparked by Livia Gorgeac, while Alina Chirilov served as our operator to capture all the live action. The final video was brought to life through the editing and camerawork of Andrei Zavtur.

Whether we are engineering sculptures from forks or traveling together to support the arts, the STEAMinions are dedicated to thinking outside the box and working as a family to make our community a brighter, greener place.

Students from the SteaMart STEAM Club investigated the hidden sugar content in popular drinks by measuring and comparing the amount of sugar in each one. Through this hands-on experiment, they practiced scientific inquiry, data analysis, and critical thinking while learning how everyday choices affect our health.

This activity showed how science, math, and real-life awareness can come together in meaningful STEAM learning.

Our students had the pleasure of welcoming guests from UN Women. They presented a science activity about carbonated drinks, sharing experiments and interesting facts about their effects.

The students also showcased creative design ideas for a modern school library, a comfortable canteen, and an improved sports hall. Their projects highlighted creativity, teamwork, and innovative thinking.

We are proud of our young explorers who confidently shared their ideas and demonstrated that learning can be both creative and impactful. ✨

Interestingly, in this experiment, the amount of CO₂ released during the reaction is comparable to the amount we give off through breathing over a short period of time. Thus, a simple experiment carried out in the kitchen helps us better understand everyday chemical processes and the role of carbon dioxide in the environment.

The next step? To extend the investigation and measure how much CO₂ is released in exhaust gases, in order to connect simple chemical reactions with the impact of human activities on the environment.
