I have a multi-modal learning preference. I prefer written instructions with examples that i can follow most of the time. In some areas, I prefer a hands on approach, learning through practical examples such as past exam papers.

Although we have different majors, this course is an essential part for successful completion of the degree program.  Learning to do researches properly will also assist most of us in our professional life as well.
I have noted that everyone is hoping for the full support of e-Tutors as well as the CC. Sadly, I have experienced the opposite a few times, where they had a hands off approach. However, since orientation week I have already noticed the effort of the CC and e-Tutor to make us feel welcome and creating a bond.
I especially like the birthday roster!

I did not realize how important research was to any kind of business.  The success of a business is dependent on the administrators making informed decisions based on the analysis of data collected. It is essential for strategic planning which directly impacts the survival of the business in the particular market, in that it will be able to compete effective and produce products or service efficiently to satisfy customers.  Types of data include buying trends of consumers, assessing competitors performance in the market in terms of prices and new products.

I realized that by using the steps as a guide, i caused the concept of conducting a research clearer as well as seem less difficult than previously for me. I learned that it is necessary to define the problem before collecting data from research. It would be useless to be collecting data and not have any specific plans on how to use them. Using the proper recognized sources for collection of data is also important.This Unit also includes information on literature review, in terms of what it is, why it is necessary, sources from which they can be accessed, well as methods to conduct the review. In this unit, it was interesting to learn that research proposals, research reports and oral presentations are three other means of communication. Firstly, the proposal voices the need for the research and how it will be done, while the report and presentation are used to show the results of the research. It is important that the findings of a research whether positive or negative need to be made public because serious issues affecting the general public may need to be addressed. For example, research done for the pharmaceutical industry. Oral presentations are also customized to suit the receiving audience. In this way persons will be able to understand what is being said. We looked at qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research. It was not totally unfamiliar to me as this area was included in Introductory Statistics which I had done a couple years ago. From reading this unit, I am of the opinion that it would be best to use a mixed method approach to do my research.The topic of sampling was also examined. This topic was also a trip down memory lane from Statistics. I shall have to give this area another read in order to understand which sampling method is suited for the particular area being researched after all it was some time ago.The information received will not only help with the research assignments for this course but also the Research Project/ Practicum required for the end of the degree program. This was another area that was new to me. I enjoy doing research but I had no idea that there are different ways to gather data.
I had some knowledge about primary and secondary sources but did not realize how much they would affect the results of a research. Secondary data can be unreliable. The most interesting part however was triangulation, which is the method of using several techniques in the same study. This was the most hectic week I have experienced in this course.  Luckily for me my partner and I had completed the PowerPoint presentation but we hadn’t done the recording. I had issued in doing the recording as it could not be heard clearly all. Therefore, my partner had to do it and It was an excellent effort. This brought home the value of team work as well as to always have contingency plans when doing any activity including conducting an actual research.  I posted the responses to our opposing groups. One group only commented on our post and did not ask a question as required.I had an excellent partner for this assignment. One down, one to go.

 Quiz
The quiz was not as I expected as there were open ended as well as closed ended questions. Also, the questions I expected and practiced for did not come. I tried my best and I passed. On reflection, I did not see where I could have prepared differently.

I was exhausted by the time I got home but had to do some reading on how to prepare a questionnaire. It took some time as I kept falling asleep as a result of being so tired. I completed and posted the day before the deadline. Previously, at first glance, questionnaires seemed pretty simple and easy to prepare but now I know better. It was a lot of work as I had to keep switching around and changing the questions until I was satisfied that I would get the required information. It is the same in actual research that the questions have to be geared towards the purpose for the research and that they will be able analyze the data from the answers given. This was also an eye-opener. I had not previously given any thought as to what happens when a questionnaire is distributed. Similarly, I had never given any thoughts and how the results are calculated even though I have participated in many surveys both in branch and online. Data is necessary to show differences, concepts and reflection. The purposes range from discovering patterns, finding negatives and theoretical similarities. It is evident that surveys are an important part managing an entity and for the public, marketers and students to participate in doing survey to assist them in making informed decisions as well as to measure customer satisfaction, I learned a lot from this unit however, I was also concerned as to if I would be able to properly present the results in my research project. I am not good at using Excel which is crucial in presentation of the data. We debated whether probability and non-probability sampling.
I thoroughly enjoyed the debate and I think we were the better able to able to prove our point over our opponents.

For this week , we were requested to upload a PowerPoint presentation of the research project. I had prepared a presentation but on receipt of further instructions, I realized that it had to be changed. I also did the recording but too would have to be changed. I did not realize that the due date had been extended. Another disappointment for me. I am hoping the grade received for the research would be a good one.
