They experience things like, almost being eaten by a cannibal, becoming a murderer, falling in love with a handsome man who eats children, and pretending to be Satan's Grandma. How lovely is that scenario?
Faithful Johannes: A servant for a long line of kings, was always faithful.
King and Queen: Hansel and Gretel's parents. They weren't meant to meet, but did anyway. In order to bring someone back to life, the king had to behead his children, their heads grew back thanks to magic, but when the children found out, they ran away from them.

I can't describe the rest of the characters due to spoilers, and a good amount of them aren't encountered again.

There are at least three important, or main ones. The first one, and probably one of the more major ones, is trying to find a home. Hansel and Gretel throughout most of the story, are trying to find a home, or some place or purpose in the world. The second occurs when the siblings are separated from each other and have to find each other before they die. Each has a couple chapters in their separate Point Of View, and each has their own different conflicts. The last is after the two reunite and return home. When they return, they find a dragon who is killing everyone.
