Freedom doesn't mean that we able to do whatever we want to. For example, in the "Declaration of Independence", it states The King would do whatever he wanted "...imposing taxes without our Consent...has refused to pass laws for the accommodation of large districts of people..." (Jefferson 1) The people went against The King because he was doing whatever he wanted. The people wanted to set boundaries for what leader could or could not do and as a result, constructed their own nation independent from England.

Freedom also has a price. Some people are not as fortunate as others are in this "free" nation. For example, in "Black Hair", the author talks about how when he ran away from his home because of how his home life was, he struggled. "...when I was a seventeen-year-old runaway who ended up in Glendale, California, to work for Valley Tire Factory. To answer an ad in the newspaper I walked miles in the afternoon sun, my stomach slowly knotting on a doughnut that was still breakfast, my teeth like bright candles gone yellow." (Soto 627) He payed the price to have what we know as "freedom".

Freedom doesn’t exactly mean you are free. You still have laws and rules we have to follow for our own and others safety. Freedom doesn’t mean you can do what you want, freedom has a price, and it doesn’t matter how you are born. It all depends on the person and what they do. What does freedom mean to you?

You don’t need to be born a certain way to achieve greatness. The “American Dream” is about everyone.. For example, in A Chinaman’s Chance, it says “something that held people of all races, religions, and identities together.” (Liu 633) This ties into freedom because it doesn’t matter who you are, you can do great things.
