With that being said I personally feel many of the national level data sets to be lacking. For example; the turnaround for national level data collections such as NAPLAN doesn’t allow educators to implement meaningful changes in a timely manner. Although a student may have been struggling with spelling on the day of the test, their results coming through 6-12 months later, inhibits meaningful changes to be implemented to improve learning at an individual level. Some other factors involved in this include student’s attention and mood on that particular day, the facilitation of the test and so on. 

For this reason, I believe teaching teams within schools, ought to approach the use of data to improve learning at a more micro level and utilise NAPLAN for more macro level approaches to educational outcomes.

I believe implementing effective practices using data may be the most challenging thing to do. Despite this, I believe it can be a useful tool to assist students in progressing through their schooling.
